Why Spreading the Wealth is Wrong

Whether you think Joe the Plumber is just a regular guy or an insidious plant by the McCain camp, it doesn’t change the very telling words that Barack Obama chose to answer his question. The phrase ‘spread the wealth’ is so synonymous with socialism, Marxism and communism that it may be hard to discern why this should scare everyone in America, regardless of economic status. Trying to build our economy from the bottom up in this manner, by taxing the ‘rich’ and giving to the ‘poor’, will never work. This creates an equation that looks like this: Rich - taxes = Poor + wealth It incites class warfare, which divides our country into warring factions, and more importantly, overlooks basic human nature.

Let’s look at the Rich - taxes side of the equation: This country was founded, in part, on the premise that if left alone with minimal governmental interference, the regular guy could succeed in life through hard work and perseverance. Success itself was the incentive for hard work. There was never a guarantee of success, only a guarantee of opportunity. If we now punish success through confiscatory taxes, where is the incentive to strive for more? If a business owner looks at his books and says, “I can’t earn any more than X amount of dollars, or I will be penalized.” He (or she) is less likely to take steps to grow the business, which could include hiring more people, buying more equipment, and opening additional locations. All these steps would greatly benefit the community in which the business is located, but not if the owner deems it too costly given the increase in taxes he must pay.

Now the Poor + wealth side: No one (not even those EVIL Republicans) believes that those individuals truly in dire straights should not be given help when needed. That being said, it is basic human nature to do what is necessary to survive. If someone will do something for you are you more or less likely to do the same for yourself? On the whole I would say you would be less likely. So if we are giving to an individual and not requiring that work be done in return, where is the individual’s incentive to make more of himself? There is none. Taking away this incentive takes away the basic survival instinct in us all. So we are punishing success again, but in this instance, by making survival unnecessary. The government will do it for you. Looking at the government’s track record for being efficient and prompt, this should worry you. Does the government know better than you what is best for you and your family?

The fact that this type of system pits both sides against each other to government’s benefit should be frightening to everyone. Businesses can’t survive without workers and workers can’t survive without jobs. Class warfare only benefits government and insures that government is the only entity with control. Not what our founders had in mind!

Sent this to our local rags the other day, probably too long to get published. Thought I’d see what everyone here thought of it!

If you spread the wealth, it is wrong, because it is steling, and it does not work, because all you end up spreading is poverty. Watch Dr. Zhivago if you want to see that that looks like.

BTW, have you heard Obama offering to spread his own wealth?

Do you suppose that Barack Obama really thinks he’s Robin Hood? Naw, just another commie.

Or how about some of Obama's commie friends? The Clintons? Franklin Raines? The Gores? I love it when a bunch of rich crooks talk spreading the wealth. Of course, it's easy to spend other people's money. Especially, when you didn't earn your money through hard work. Try busting your ass and sacrificing for thirty years only to have the government tell you that you make "too much". #@!$#&^% socialists!!!!

Not that I agree with Obama the Marxist but isn't “bailing out” corporations a far right version of spreading the wealth? If you were a real capitalist you would let the market failures take their course without government intervention. Corrections and failures need to happen.

Today we have multinational billion dollar corporations begging for Joe Citizen to help them then they go and spend hundreds of thousands of tax dollars on corporate getaways.

The fact is, multinational corporations have no loyalty to America nor to her citizens and therefore must be watched.

As far as taking from people who earn more and give it to those who don't want to work that is socialism all the way. It is also unfair to the one who has worked hard to achieve their success. Mentally ill and the like should be helped by private faith based organizations.

So, with the bailout and the borrowing of trillions how is that different than tax and spend? How is borrow and spend better?
