Skip to comments. How Christian voters have denied their faith

Regardless of the outcome of the presidential election, the 2008 election cycle has been a winnowing season for all Americans who claim to be followers of Jesus Christ. Both of the major parties nominated individuals whose views discard the nation's founding principle of respect for the authority of the Creator God.
Faced with this circumstance, those in full possession of the facts had to make a choice for or against telling the truth. Many so-called Christian leaders chose to act deceitfully. They produced voters' guides and made statements pretending that John McCain is pro-life. His record includes some actions that appear to be pro-life and others that could not be. They emphasized the first and ignored the second. If the pro-life position is just a matter of counting votes, they could claim to be justified. But Christian conscience can never be satisfied with a result that accepts as righteous those who appear to do good, but turn their backs on the principle of all goodness, which is the will and spirit of God. Such were the Scribes and Pharisees whom Christ harshly ridiculed and condemned, even though his uncompromising rejection of them led directly to his unjust arrest, torture and crucifixion.

I think that more Catholics denied their faith than Evangelicans did. I should know — I am a Catholic and I admire what the Evangelicans did. Most bishops were afraid to speak up strongly for the faith in fear of the IRS.
Their tepid message was: vote your conscience. Never were the names of the candidates mentioned, or what they represented. Even today I met Catholics who lectured me on not mixing religion and politics. My head still hurts from banging it agaainst the wall.
Being a Baptist, and routinely mixing it up with Catholics over theology, despite our theological difference I have great respect for the churchs’ pro-life stand.
But when I saw the exit data from Pennsylvania and the percent of white Catholics who voted for Obama ... my heart sank and I knew we were finished.
And I was equally appauled at how many blacks from my church voted for Obama.
Alan Keyes is probably the last doctrinaire conservative extant. It’s a cinch John McCain isn’t. And if conservatism is going to survive, it’s going to need spokesmen with Keyes’ articulation and integrity. Sarah Palin’s pretty face wasn’t enough. And McCain’s tepid pandering certainly wasn’t. If the next GOP candidate isn’t grounded in the very principles Keyes describes here, the Republican Party deserves a one-way trip to history’s dustbin.
Here are the problems that I feel were unique to Obama (and not McCain)
Evil associations (Wright, Ayers et al)
Ps 1:1 Blessed is the man
who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked
or stand in the way of sinners
or sit in the seat of mockers.
Deut 30:15 “I have put before you life and death, blessings and curses, choose life”
See http://blogsforjohnmccain.com/things-barack-obama-didnt-know Proverbs 6:16 These six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him:
17A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,
18An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief,
19A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.
Pro gay unions:
Lev. 20:13, “If there is a man who lies with a male as those who lie with a woman, both of them have committed a detestable act; they shall surely be put to death. Their bloodguiltness is upon them”
Going back on his word (esp. public campaign financing):
Matt 5:33, Pr. 12
And there are probably many more!
Anyway, how ANY Christian could ignore any of these very critical topics while voting is moast assuredly an abomination to God. It’s not just abortion; there are many things we don’t know about this guy. He’s been ambiguous on Israel, but if he decides to divide it, that’s ANOTHER mark against him.
It came down to voting for a sometimes-ALLY in efforts to thwart an always-Marxist.
It happened that way not by accident.
CLOSE ALL GOP PRIMARIES.
BOOT ALL GOP RINOs.
TAKE BACK LOST GROUND.
Simple but hard. (Murphy’s Laws of Combat: the easy way is always mined)
Failure is not an option.
Yesterday we lost major yardage, to put it in football terms. Yet...
...Living in yesterday’s failure is not faith but fear. We must press on. We are the ones who have the ultimate Good News about the true Hope people need.
Politics is not a spectator sport. The fact that so many think it is is a big part of the problem.
...Living in yesterdays failure is not faith but fear. We must press on.
"Pressing on" is great. Unless the direction you are going leads you, and those who listen to you, over a cliff. If you're going that way, it might be advisable to stop, look around, and then "press on" in another direction, eh?
We are the ones who have the ultimate Good News about the true Hope people need.
The leadership of the Republican Party now only pays lip service to God, when they even deign to mention Him at all. There's no Good News to be found in that for anybody.
I imagine that at least a few bishops woke up this Wednesday morning, November 5, to the realization they are now paper figureheads of the "Blue Catholic Church." Even many of the so-called strong anti-abortion statements in the last month or two by some bishops came too late in the game; and never went far enough in discplining Catholic politicians. It was as if they were posing for Rome, as if to say half-heartedly "look, see, we are doing something!" We need a house cleaning.
After 30 to 40 years of lax pastoral leadership, kumbaya and guitar masses, holding hands, 'seamless garment' theology, mamby pamby leadership (e.g. failure to name names and excommunicate Catholic politicians), etc.; it should have been no surprise that a large segment of the Roman Catholic Church in this country has now turned "Blue".
We can only hope that Rome will look in horror upon the state of the Church in the U.S.; and become more vigorous and aggressive in appointing and promoting strong, active shepherds - and dispose of the bishops who have tolerated the wolves within the flock. < / Rant >
We were discussing CINO’s and bishop accountability on another thread:
I’m running out of non-cuss words to describe what I feel concerning traitorous, heretical CINO’s. Stuck on disgusted at the moment, but horrified got a run for its money. Crushed that I have family that voted for Obama. I’m too pissed for saddened.
“Im running out of non-cuss words to describe what I feel concerning traitorous, heretical CINOs.”
What I have found out is that the Obama Catholics voted not with evil intent but are just plain stupid and have no idea of the issues involved. Some even came up with the argument that we should not mix politics with religion. (Where have we heard that before?) Apparently, the issue of terminating innocent life (abortion) has become strictly a political issue to them. The problem is that not many have witnessed the result of an abortion and cannot make the connection between killing and the promise of “change”.
Although the clergy knows better than that, the message many conveyed was garbled, unclear and often gutless. I have heard it said in a homily to “Vote for Jesus”, whatever that means. The names Obama and McCain and what these two stood for were never mentioned. I am far from being a theologian, but I am convinced that all this did not go unnoticed by God. Somewhere, somehow, a debt will have to be paid. I think that payment is due soon.
Ha, now I’m adding “gutless” to my descriptions of CINO’s. I read somewhere that Catholics voted for Obama for the economy. So, yes, they support infanticide and the hope for more money (a hope that will soon be shattered) and want to call themselves Catholic? I’m with you, I think you are right, God has noticed this, I wonder what’s coming down the pike next?
