Mountain View police said someone is attacking registered sex offenders in the city and the attacks may be related.
Two crimes against sex offenders have taken place in the past month.
Detectives described the attacks as similar.
The first crime occurred on Sunday, Oct. 19, 2008, at 9:39 a.m., at an apartment complex on the west side of the city, officers said.
A witness saw a man carrying a bat and placing a Molotov cocktail-type device at the front door of a registered sex offender.
When confronted by the witness, the man indicated he was targeting the person living in the apartment due to the fact that he was sex offender.
The suspect took the device and left the scene.
Patrol units were unable to locate the suspect but they did locate evidence of two Molotov cocktails in the area.
The man was described by the witness as being a Hispanic, in his 20s, approximately 6 feet tall and wearing all dark clothing, including a dark baseball cap.
The second attack occurred at 7:15 a.m. on Nov. 6, 2008, in the northern section of Mountain View.
A man armed with a wooden stick forced his way into the front door of the victims home.
The man attacked the victim by hitting him multiple times about the head, causing moderate injuries, officers said.
The man indicated to the victim that he was attacking him due to his status as a sex offender.
The man fled the scene and was not located, officers said.
He was described as white, in his 20s, approximately 6 feet tall and weighing 170-175 pounds.
The man was wearing all dark clothing including a dark baseball cap.
The victim received several lacerations to his head and was transported to a hospital for treatment.
His injuries are considered non-life threatening.
Detectives are mailing letters of warning to all registered sex offenders in Mountain View.
Sex offenders are encouraged to be vigilant and are urged to call police if they see anyone or anything suspicious.
Good. Hopefully the attacks are fatal.
This reminds me of some guest either Art Bell or George Noory (can’t remember which, it’s been awhile since the show) who claimed he had been a member of a secret hit squad working out of Interpol, actually “hitting” child pornographers worldwide.
It was bizarre. Reminds me of this.
California. About 30 miles south of San Francisco.
Where do we send contributions for this guy?
Do you know for a fact that these men were guilty? Are you saying that no innocent people are ever convicted? Do you know what they were accused of?

Fire bombs at an apartment complex, ineffective home invasion and physical attack. This guy is nutty as a fruit cake and is a danger to everyone.
Yes and people pile on the bandwagon without thinking. When a person sobers up, date rape is a popular cry. I know a young woman who has said a man abused her and they’d never met her. She now constantly claims that different people are abusing her kids. It gets her attention. But she refuses to allow anyone to talk to or examine her kids. Crying “abuse” is her favourite revenge and attention getting device.
Obama will make sure that the civil rights of the sex offenders are preserved.
I posted virtually the same sentiments in my post #12 before reading your post. It is troubling all the support that this vigilante is getting. Now, I have no sympathy for child rapists but "sex offenses" have become the great catch-all. There are people registered as sex offenders whose crime was urinating in a dark alley during a night of bar-hopping (indecent exposure). Many of these databases don't specify what the crime was.
Furthermore, this nut-job is leaving molotov cocktails on people's front porches? That's hardly discriminatory.
Finally, if we're going to maintain a sex offender database, maybe we can have burglary and robbery databases as well? I'm not to worried about sex offenders but I'd really like to know who the B&E guys in my neighborhood are so I know where to look when my stuff winds up missing.
Paul Kersey.
I’m disturbed by it too. We are either a nation of laws or we are not. And that’s coming from a person whose father was a pedophile.
I think the predator registry is a good thing.
But the type of abuse should be established and taken into consideration.
Most states have levels, level 1,2 and 3. Some people don’t care. An accusation is enough. It’s an unfortunate human trait that emotion clouds judgment.
Both pet-peeves of mine, too. Please post what state the town is in, people!
Lighten up.
Also scriptural.
