A British couple have divorced after the husband was caught having a "virtual affair" with a female character in an online role-playing game.

David Pollard and Amy Taylor met in an online chat room in 2003 and married after discovering a shared love of the Internet game "Second Life."

In the game, players create characters known as avatars, which then interact with others in a virtual world.

To his wife's horror, Pollard's interaction included virtual infidelity with a female character playing the role of a prostitute.

Just wait till David finds out his on-line consort is virtually pregnant.

Can you say virtual child support?

who would have ever thought 20 years ago that peeps would be getting divorced for having sex with a cartoon character? or marrying cartoon characters? or having relationships with cartoon characters that are women, but the real person is a man or visa versa?
peeps take these games way to serious!!

“who would have ever thought 20 years ago “

David Cronenberg thought of it 9 years ago in the movie Existenz.

In the background plot, so many people play very real looking virtual games, that society itself is impacted (”What? Nobody actually goes skiing anymore..”).

The characters in the movie have played so many ultra-real games they can no longer tell when they are in “reality”.

Second Life is a timesucker, second only to World Of Warcraft, another game that has resulted in divorce and even assaults in meatworld encounters.

sounds like he was ahead of his time!
how long until games like this offer “cyber marriage counseling” for characters?
i thought there was a article recently too, where some one was suing for killing their on line character? how long until the real world has “cyber manslaughter?”...sounds ridiculous, but then so did some of this years ago lol.

But who knows if that avatar prostitute was actually a woman in real life? It could just as easily been another man.

The Internet.

Where men are men.

And so are the women.

And the 14 year old girls are FBI agents.
