Hello Freepers! Like everyone else, I am buying everything I can that sends rounds down range. Since Black Tuesday, I have purchased a Ruger .357 magnum, Sig 229 .45 cal. and a PTR-91. I have been buying ammo like no ones's business. Are these good choices? Any other choices? Also, I have a relative who is selling his Springfield P-9C (9mm), Remmy 970 20 ga., Remmy 700 25-06 (w scope), .380 Makarov, and a 1944 GM Inland Mfg. M-1 .30 cal. Should I snap these up? Please forgive my inexperience. Any help would be appreciated.
Dude. I respect you, but why do you want to tell the world what you have?
You’re scaring me. Inexperience and that kind of firepower can only be asking for trouble. Start slowly, get educated, spend time on the range and then build your arsonal.
I'd certainly consider buying the M-1, though I'll bet it's an M-1 Carbine, given the Inland manufacture. Actually, it's worth buying, either way, and the carbine might even be more valuable.
You signed up in 2003 to make this your FIRST post???
HUH?
M-1 .30 cal for sure and maybe the Remington 700.
Make sure you have enough ammo for the rifle and PRACTICE. If things get crazy the handguns will be less useful and take more expertise to use under extreme duress.
Check out the Makarov and the carbine closely. An East German Makarov is a high-quality item, and can be converted easily to .380 Auto. The Russian and other commie bloc versions are cruder.
The Inland carbine is the most common. It's an adequate defensive weapon. However, look at it from a collecting viewpoint. 98% of all carbines were upgraded during their lifetimes. If this one has no bayonet lug, and still has the two-position flip sight, you have a potential winner on your hands. It means it is "as built", or close to it. A pristine "original" carbine is probably worth close to $2000 today. Of course, the stock has to be clean, with all markings intact.
I wouldn't pick any of them as my primary defensive weapon unless I was desperate, due to calibers involved. But for trading stock, they'd be fine if there are no major problems, and the price is right. But people are willing to pay premium prices for EBRs right now, and none of these are yet worth a premium.
But the Inland carbine could be a sleeper as a collector's item if a lot of things come together just right. It's worth a look.
I’m very interested in the PT-91.
I used to have one of the HK-91 clones with a PSG-1 trigger group. It was a VERY nice rifle.
About how much does a PT-91 cost brand new?
joining the rest of the country and arming up? From what I’ve seen, the gun stores are loaded with first time buyers.
VERY IMPORTANT, Learn to be safe. Scares me a bit. Too many newbies out there. People are being motivated by many different reasons. Fear of the unknown probably. I know I am too. This is scarier than when Clinton got into office. Not sure if Obama will be actually inaugurated with all the unproven factors, but hey, BE SAFE!
He may have 2.5 million friends on his go-list.
Don’t advertise in public the kind of fire power you have. You don’t know who’s trolling FR. They may be making a list and checking it twice, and I don’t think it’s Santa. lol...
What's up with that? They are all over the Obama Birth Certificate Threads.
If I didn't use a login in 1 or 2 years, I wouldn't be able to remember it. Very strange.
I think I understand.
“Dont advertise in public the kind of fire power you have. You dont know whos trolling FR. They may be making a list and checking it twice, and I dont think its Santa. lol...”
You’re being paranoid.
No he is not. We had some on HotAir and Ace of Spades who admitted they are doing this. Look up Trippi and his internet army as well as Change.gov
Get the M-1 if it’s in good shape.
Let's get this straight, you have an account since Jan 2003 but you wait almost six years to post anything. Your first post is quite frankly about arming yourself for, "defence" against your fellow citizens or the government, and you ask for suggestions.
This post does NOT pass the smell test
I guess it kind of depends on what you think will be the worst case scenario for you and why you specifically need each of those guns to survive. There are those with a fortress mentality and it sounds like you might be that type. You want an arsenal to defend your home.
There are others however that have a bug-out mentality and prefer the ability to go mobile at the drop of a hat. So if your neighborhood suddenly looks like it is going to become ground zero, you get your bug out bag and move to the deep woods. If you have a ton of weapons, you are going to be leaving them behind for the most part.
So you just have to ask yourself what type of person you are. Personally, I prefer to have just a few key weapons that I can take with me for survival just in case it comes to that and then I won’t be leaving a huge arsenal behind. I don’t see hunkering down as the best option for me personally. My biggest concern is then not carrying weapons, but deciding how much ammo I can practically carry if I need to bug out.
Buy what you can at a good price. Pick a pistol and a rifle round you are comfortable with and concentrate on those. Prefferably something easy to run with and reload.
Ya just never know..
And being an Oregonian.
Most of my fellow Oregonians hunt.
Very common to have guns in these parts and a huge chest freezer.
: )
“No he is not. We had some on HotAir and Ace of Spades who admitted they are doing this. Look up Trippi and his internet army as well as Change.gov”
There are how many gun owners in the US? Probably over 100 million now. Unless you give personal ID and tell people where you hide the front door key, I think it is paranoid to not feel free to discuss the guns you own or want to own on FR. Guys like this need to know if what they have is good and if hey need something more. Legitimate questions.
They don’t make a Sig229 in .45
education is the key, otherwise some folks would think racking the slide on a shotgun is a good defensive move.
Those are the scary ones, not the people who voted against him and are now adding to their arsenal because they know what Obama really is.
Remember newbie shooters, practice makes perfect.
Legitimate yes. My point is that he wasn’t being paranoid. Obama isn’t going to stop his internet campaign. He is just turning it to other purposes.
They invested in logins like many Americans are investing in gold or ammo.
“Most of my fellow Oregonians hunt.”
Why do they have such a liberal voting record then?
That would be Multnomah county we live in rural Oregon.
And hunting/fishing season is a busy time.
I even know Liberals who hunt.
All the guns you have are winners, in my view.
I select guns based upon ammo availability. That’s why I have rifles in 223 and 308 and a 9mm and 45 cal pistols.
It is doubtful that we are being tracked on FR.
Sorry - again I am new to this and am just looking for suggestions, advice etc. Any help would be appreciated.
Sorry - 870 Remington
I know, I know.... better late than never??
Sorry - It is a P220 R
Rats love the big cities.
“Youre being paranoid.”
Don’t think so. But in my case it comes from experience.
My travel pack.

Please don’t respond I shouldn’t post what I have. They’ll be knocking at my doors first anyway as a FFL holder.
Cities provide the kind of environment that individuals who require a social service network are drawn to. And then they get recruited through government bribes to vote for the Dems who rape the rest of the state's population to keep feeding their election machines.
Now, how can I get in touch with this "relative"? Please send email with his address or phone number.
I’d skip the .380 Mak unless it’s really, really cheap (like $100 cheap). The 25-06 simply because I, too, subscribe to the common caliber way of thinking. But that really depends upon *why* you are buying these.
Something else I’ve been doing is buying a carbine here and there to match handgun calibers. If things get stupid enough with Obama and Kennedy in charge to where rifle ammo is banned or severely restricted, I’ll still have long guns that can shoot handgun ammo.
Remingtons are not "Remmys."
Winchesters are not "Winnies."
And shotguns are not "Shotties."
Sig has never chambered their P229 in .45 Auto.
Everbody wants to be like this guy, huh?

Unfortunately some end up like this shooting their new "shottie": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OvQJsYnkNhA&feature=related
I know. And people are taking this seriously.
I’m taking a slightly contrarian view of this situation. While I’m occasionally tempted to purchase something new, I’ve had more than enough for the last 30 years to do the job.
Despite being old and decrepit, If I DO need more, I’ll just take them away from 0bamas Civilian National Security Force thugs when they come into the neighborhood. Despite my age and infirmity, I don’t reckon that many of them will have been through Ranger School, SFQC or have much combat experience (other than perhaps a few “drivebys”)
Like your Sigs.
LOVE your car.
I also have a good crossbow in case stealth is needed.
There’s is positively nothing wrong with buying something you want as long as you’re not hurting your family and depriving them of their share of the family income.
Just remember, it’s never what you own. It’s what you can do with what you own.
Collector’s aside, guns just don’t fit everyone. The bells and whistles don’t match every single person on the planet. You might fall in love with a particular gun but it’s impossible to use in a fast and accurate mode. You’ll find out if you view any competitions, the competitors gravitate to only certain guns but then the person’s size dictates what’s used.
A good shot might be able to use every single gun out there but when you learn a shooting match is measured in tenths of a second, you might find searching for that magazine release is hurting you.
I loved this car that I thought I was going to buy and when I finally had the cash and test drove it, nothing worked. The car was beautiful from the outside and I would have impressed the neighbors. Behind the steering wheel was horrible and adjusting the controls didn’t do a thing. I bought a car that doesn’t impress the neighbors. Sitting behind the steering wheel, it impressed me.
Very true,
Keep your inventory close to the vest..
PT-91 going for $1700, locally, up from $1100 six weeks ago. “Going” might be the wrong word...my dealer has two on the shelf. AK’s and Ar’s are all but unattainable.
