I was a full charge bookkeeper in another life. I have always kept our finances on a bookkeeping type system. File cabinet and file folders for every aspect of our life. Individual file folders for every expense. Individual file folders for every item we own, from the vehicles to the well pump. I follow up every piece of mail received, track every bill. Therefore, I know we have no outstanding overdue bills.
So I can only conclude that it is a scam or a wrong number.
If it is that important, they can send a letter.
If they didn't ask for a specific person by name, then it's definitely a scam.
If they asked for a specific person that matches someone in your household, they probably just auto-dialed the numbers of every hit they got from http://www.whitepages.com/.
Once, I got several calls from a collection agency because they thought I might be married to a deadbeat they were looking for. After I had an "interesting" discussion with them, I sent them a registered letter saying that if they called me again, I was filing a complaint with their local police for harassment. I CC'ed the Attorney General in my state and their state. They never bothered me again.
Either way, true Obama program or not, it’s a scam.
No, the automated message did not ask for a person by name which was part of the reason I came to the conclusion it was a scam.
