Like many South East Asians, many people of Laos will barbecue and eat mice and even rats. "They taste like chicken' Mr Dao told us. I'll pass on the "mice with rice" dish. I guess it's all what you grow up with. I knew someone at my office who was originally from Korea. Rare hamburger would make him gag.

The Lao people are very nice and have a high work ethic. However, their government is despicable and visiting Laos outside of the capital is like going back 100 to 150 years in time. Looking at and talking to people, you will discover that the medical care and infrastructure are at rock bottom. Not as bad as Burma as the government is not that greedy and exploitive, but it's not a place I would like to live.

Outside the capital is very primitive, very primitive indeed and the people appear malnourished.

Mice cannot live in a vacuum sealed bag as they are air breathers.
We don’t have the whole story here.

I was also surpirsed at how short they were and small in general-very shy. Not a great country.
