590’s have been available to the public for 2 decades I dont know how old this pres release is! I have seen A1 models (thicker barrel for the navy) for sale several years ago.

Question? Why would the Navy model have a thicker barrel?

The 590 that has been available has been the plastic triggerguard variety. There have been a few runs of the all-steel variety, but are hard to come by.

The 590A1 is all-steel, from the safety(weakest part) to the entire trigger housing.

The USMC has always had a fetish for shotguns that work, and the 590A1 is the only type to meet all the requirements for them. Quite a feat considering the competitors.
