Hmmm. I saw one of my Dad's hunting dogs go into a frenzy on a pheasant once. New dog. Dog got kicked, hollered at, chased down into a corner and made to lie down for hours like a kid sent to his room. I mean, Dad let that dog know who the boss was. If dog wants to join hunt, dog must follow rules. Eventually that dog turned into a fine retriever.

Problem is, your border collie is a herding dog who doesn't know when to stop controlling the prey. And you probably don't know anything about herding instincts. Read up on the proper training of herding dogs.

lololol that’s a pretty good story. My dog chewed on electrical cords, or at least did, until she got hold of a live one. Dumb ass dog, just sat there and barked at it for hours. But one thing.....she does not chew on them anymore, and yes, she is still alive.

LOL! We have a cat that could be that one’s twin. I’m going to have my son build a box for him.

Molly approved thread. No Deer or Jack Russels allowed, only cute little bunnies and kittens.

Border Collies are highly intelligent. I have one. He started killing chickens and I was told he would never stop....he did after I tied one around his neck for 3 days and he had to live with it!! (NOT in the house...lol) If that had failed I would have taken a chicken neck and head and stuck it in his mouth and wrapped duck tape around it...it would be a taste he would grow to hate!! The last thing he wants to see is a chicken!! Will work the same with deer.

This will work with any breed....even if they chew your shoes...see to it a shoe is the last thing they want to be around.

>>A deer nearly totalled my car a couple of years ago.<<

Well, as long as it wasn’t a moose. Those moose can be very dangerous, and one even bit my sister.

Your dog has a serious need to hunt. I once had a Wiemar who did that, but she was more into birds. She really wouldn’t eat much of them, just caught a lot of them. She would stand for hours sneaking up on a bird, then lunge quite a distance when in range. It was quite a sight to see.

Once she dropped the bird though, she never seemed to go back to it. Other than the puncture marks, she wouldn’t eat much.

The only thing that worked for her was to tie her up, which I just couldn’t do, she just loved to run the acres of our yard.

With our wind dogs we let them tear into the fresh kill so they could draw a scent. But the dogs didn’t run the deer, they just sat in the swamp buggy and nosed the wind for us by barking.

We have hardwood floors at our home. He comes in, especially at night. We have taken to allowing him to sleep in our bedroom on his pad. I usually go to bed about 30 minutes after my wife. I would say, “Come on, Jack.” He comes down the hallway, but now he lifts up his toes so his nails won’t click on the hardwood floor and wake up my wife of the kids. He goes very quietly otherwise to his pad. Now, all during the day, he walks normally on the floos, nails clicking, and everything. He is funny.

My father-in-law had a german shepard that learned how to chase deer into the pasture fence and then kill them. He was very effective and when ever we needed freah meat we would watch the pasture for deer in the evening and turn ol rebel loose.
