That’s a great idea, if they can do it. One of the distracting things about programs like iChat is the lack of eye contact.
If they can fix that, it would be huge. That is the biggest impediment to making it seem like you are talking to the person directly. We don’t realize how tuned in we are to facial cues until you do a video chat without that.
I always end up fiddling and fudging with camera to make it look like I am looking directly at the person, but to no avail.
I use the program a lot, and that is the main drawback. They have it working pretty well otherwise.

Two cameras on (in) the screen; placed several inches apart, could allow for stereoscopic (3-D) image transmission. The iMac 3-D would be cool.

How about using the entire screen as a camera? Using several tricks, you might even be able to have a screen that is projecting light outward at the same time it is absorbing and digitizing light hitting it.
To: BGHater
With the simplest of shape recognition software the computer could recognise that there is a problem occuring. Almost any such shape recognition software program should recognise when I am flipping the bird at the screen.

Not good enough, make it work when the display is active.

Great way to spy on folks without their knowing, dontcha think? How are you going to know if that camera is enabled or not? All that paranoia about Big Brother watching you through your TV and listening in even if your phone is hung up may not be so far fetched after all.
