Special effects like they had in tonight’s show get very expensive. Also it eventually gets repetitious.

Not if you do it right and be creative. You can have action scenes in every episode and make it better.

I will rent the series and start from the beginning.

Just be aware: it all starts with a miniseries. Rent that first, then get the episodes of the first season.

BSG had the most amazing start (with the miniseries) and first season of a show, ever. (In my opinion.) The show made some major miscues down the road (as well as having some great episodes), but I stuck with it just to see how the events of that tremendous start would all end up.

Temporal longterm loop? Or God's longterm play thing?

I’m thinking temporal longterm loop..... Look at the ending showing the robots that we are creating close to the cylons..

Yes, it seem to lead to the futility of it all though. of course it may be the journey - not the destination.

As I said earlier.. Two lessons from BSG....
1. Be careful with AI and robotics.. It could bite us in the you know what..

2. Make sure we have space travel so the human race can survive..

2. Make sure we have space travel so the human race can survive..

Should be noted that such capability (not just space travel but also FTL capability) was voluntarily surrendered when the Colonials and skinjob Cylons deliberately shipwrecked themselves on "our" Earth by sending their entire fleet into the Sun.

According to the show, 150,000 years have passed and "new humanity" have yet to regain anything even close to what was lost.

Excellent ending for the series. Lots of room for followup shows/movies/mini-series too.

Best SciFi TV show, ever!

I might even have to change my screen name now!

Yes, but our nuclear wars have been quite limited - and only in the last 64 years - compared to what the Colonial / Cylon societies had been going through, time after time.

So looking at it from their perspective, that's 149,936 years of no annihilation, at the cost of a harder and shorter lifespan.

I did a quick check on NetFlix and didn’t see the miniseries. There were the seasons and a few movies though. Where do the movies fall within the timeframe of the series?

Yeah, it's confusing as Ron Moore is fleshing out both storylines and profit opportunities.... In character timeline (note release status):

  1. Caprica (Not yet released) - the start of a new series set 50 years or so before BSG. Admiral Adama's father is a key character;
  2. Battlestar Galactica - the Miniseries (Released, but not at Netflix - pick up at Blockbuster) - the start of BSG. Essential for understanding the series;
  3. Battlestar Galactica - Season 1 (Released) - Amazing, amazing stuff...;
  4. Battlestar Galactica - the Plan (Not yet released) - Life from a couple of Cylon's point of view after the fall of the Colonies;
  5. Battlestar Galactica - Razor (Released) - What happened on the Pegasus while the Galactica was gathering the Rag-Tag-Fleet, and some flashback to Husker Adama's fighting days. Note: Watch after Season 2!;
  6. Battlestar Galactica - Season 2.0 (Released) - The show gets dark, very very dark...;
  7. Battlestar Galactica - Season 2.5 (Released) - Election fun!;
  8. Battlestar Galactica - 2006 Webisodes (Released on SciFi.com? Maybe on DVD extras? Not sure) - Character flesh-out between seasons 2 and 3;
  9. Battlestar Galactica - The Story So Far (Released) - Recap DVD for newbies to the broadcast show;
  10. Battlestar Galactica - Season 3 (Released) - Battlestar Iraqtica (in some ways) - grits your conservative teeth sometimes, but also with amazing sections - Michael Hogan (Tigh) got gypped out of an Emmy, bigtime;
  11. Battlestar Galactica - Season 4.0 (Released) - So-so, but great sci-fi ending;
  12. Battlestar Galactica - 2008 Webisodes (Released on SciFi.com? Maybe on DVD extras? Not sure) - Character flesh-out between seasons 4 and 4.5;
  13. Battlestar Galactica - Season 4.5 (Not yet released) -The End;

I just checked Netflix and you CAN get the miniseries. (That's the way I saw it a couple of years ago). If you select season 1 and go to select each disk separately it's the first disk.

Anyway, it was a great ending to a very fun ride.

That would explain the lack of battle sequence this season.. In season 3 Ron shot his wad on Exodus Part 2 (I’m not complaining), but the rest of the season suffered..

A day late to the thread, my monitor died shortly after the show started!
I actually think warehouse 13 could be funny in a MIB kinda way.
