Ravens-Steelers rivalry as nasty as it gets

PITTSBURGH - Trash talking, hard hitting, spitting, fighting and nail-biting finishes.

Everything you want in a football feud can be found between the teams in Sunday's AFC Championship game.

Basically, everything the Pittsburgh Steelers once shared with the Cleveland Browns. Stealing the latter franchise in the mid-1990s wasn't enough for the city of Baltimore.

Crabtown had to net Cleveland's biggest rival as well. The Ravens have become Public Enemy No. 1 in Pittsburgh while the Browns aren't even on the most wanted list. Steelers players don't deny it, either. "Each and every year we play Baltimore, it's one of those games you circle," Steelers wide receiver Hines Ward said during a Friday news conference. "Cleveland and Pittsburgh is a rivalry itself, but the Baltimore-Pittsburgh rivalry is really heated." As in sizzling.

The decade-long animosity reached a boiling point in 2008. Following a Steelers overtime victory in September, Ravens linebacker Terrell Suggs got into hot water by claiming Baltimore defenders had placed a "bounty" on Ward and Pittsburgh running back Rashard Mendenhall.

Well the two cities met for the world series in 1971 and 1979. Here’s what I think will happen. Flacko will get knocked out in the second quarter and Troy Smith will come off the bench and throw two second half TD’s for a Raven victory.

This year, the Ravens are the team nobody wants to face.

This should be real good

STILLERS!!! STILLERS!!! STILLERS!!!

(As a pissed off Giants fan, however, I just want to see Arizona destroy Philthadelpia more than anything else at this point).

Bad analysis. The second half always belongs to Ben.

YAWN . . . .

Sorry. This is not enough to get me interested. I have no dog in the hunt this year. With the Colts, the Giants and the Panthers out, I'll be doing something other than watching the SB this year.

Too bad, too. I usually look forward to it. This year . . .eh! The Steelers are OK, but they won a few years ago. I don't care for the Ravens, have never liked the Eagles (I really don't know why - visceral reaction, I guess!), and Arizona? Give me a break!

I’ll be rooting for the Distillers to beat the Stolen Browns.

I agree—go Cardinals!! I fear Ravens will go to the SuperBowl and probably win. Did you hear Rush Limbaugh, a diehard Steeler’s fan, say that after the Miracle on the Hudson on Thursday, that any team that’s not a BIRD should win!

Yes, I heard that, and was pleased that Rush is on my side once again here (although when it comes to golf, I find it is too easy to root for Tiger Woods as Rush does. Vijay is my fave).

GO Ravens

Ravens got lucky against TN, a game they should have clearly lost if not for TN boneheaded turnovers. Basically TN beat themselves. That's not going to happen against the Steelers.

Rooting for the Ravens but expecting the Steelers to clobber them. Ravens are tired, Steelers got a bye and an easy win over the Chargers, and Joe Flacco can only defy history for so long.

Umm, the first game against TN , the Ravens outplayed them and Tennessee was lucky to get the win.. The best team advances, IMO.. As for the Steelers, they're not going to win 3 straight against the Ravens this season, it just aint gonna happen.

The Ravens are hurting on defense, and it's this game against the Steelers that Flacco has the worst game of the year.

Hopefully the Cardinals beat up on the Eagles.

But that is JMHO.

As a Browns fan I could never, ever root for either team. EVER. I only wish they could beat each other into a bloody pulp to a 0-0 tie.

Would Joe Flacco be shades of Johnny Unitas ? Joe has a hard trowing arm and accurate.

Ah so now Flacco goes back to Pittsburgh. I know a few people who have left Pittsburgh.
