The Food and Drug Administration is asking consumers to temporarily stop eating all foods containing peanut butter - this, as investigators work to find the source of a deadly salmonella outbreak linked to peanut butter and peanut butter paste. So far, more than 470 people in 43 states have gotten sick. At least 90 people have been hospitalized and six have died. Investigators are focusing on bulk tubs of peanut butter produced at the Peanut Corporation of America's Georgia facility. Its products were distributed to nursing homes and to food companies.

Wow.
Thanks very much for posting. Life/health BUMP!
Well, the jar I am using now is ok, because it is at least half gone!
If I don't post anymore, I'll guess you'll know, hahaha
Skippy will need a bailout now.
I thought it was posted earlier that the jars were ok but to avoid the crackers.
Thanks, but instead of tossing it, I am going to give our stock of peanut butter to the neighbor guy... he’s a lib. ;>)
They’re always looking for a handout, they think they should get what I’ve earned, so, it’s a win, win as far as I can see. ;>)
Cut the serpents head off and just quit eating.
Trust me, the concern of personal poisoning will dissipate soon.
I guess the mice in the area are DOOOMED ... oh wait ... that would be from the powered rat poison IN the peanut butter.
Something tells me that CNN and the New York Times will find that Bush's cousin's son's best-friend's father's neighbor's uncle's Fed-Ex driver's daughter dated the nephew of the president of the company 25 years ago.
What? Jimmy Carter isn’t going to like this.
Is there a list of the brands of peanut butter?
I bought mine awhile ago, trying to stock up. Using up a jar of Laura Scudders dated for Jan 09 now.
I know last week my family had some weird virus, or so we thought. We were exhausted and almost dazed like in a drug or something. It was the oddest thing!
I wonder if that wasn’t this. I know it doesn’t matter where you live, but I’m not too far from this plant.
Dang. Gonna cramp my Reese’s habit.
Sorry, can’t live without peanut butter.

Ever give peanut butter to a dog? They love it, and it’s so much fun to watch them try to lick and swallow it all.
You said — “I thought it was posted earlier that the jars were ok but to avoid the crackers.”
I thought I saw that, too — but now, I don’t know if I want to buy a jar. I was planning on doing it, too. I’ll hold off...
Don’t take my Jif away! Is this just a ruse to raise prices on an economical protein source during a difficult economy?
Are you saying what I think you’re saying?
MSNBC is stupid. The FDA is NOT asking people to stop eating peanut butter products. Below is the actual warning to consumers from there website.
Based on available information, FDA and CDC recommendations include:
For Consumers
FDA has created a searchable list of products and brands associated with the expanded PCA recall. This list is available on the FDA website at:
http://www.accessdata.fda.gov/scripts/peanutbutterrecall/index.cfm and will be updated on a regular basis as additional sub recalls occur and information is received by FDA from the industry.
Because identification of products subject to recall is continuing, the FDA urges consumers to first visit FDAs website to determine if commercially-prepared or manufactured peanut butter/peanut paste-containing products (such as cookies, crackers, cereal, candy and ice cream) are subject to recall. If consumers do not find the product of interest on FDAs website they may wish to call the toll-free number listed on most food packaging or visit the companys website.
If consumers cannot determine if their peanut butter, peanut butter/peanut paste-containing products or institutionally-served peanut butter may contain PCA peanut butter/peanut paste, we recommend that they do not consume those products. Efforts to specifically identify products subject to the PCA recall and to continuously update consumers are ongoing.
Do not eat products that have been recalled and throw them away in a manner that prevents others from eating them.
Persons who think they may have become ill from eating peanut butter are advised to consult their health care providers.
The FDA has a downloadable excel file
Thank You!!!

Major national brands of jarred peanut butter are not affected by the PCA recall. PCA does not sell peanut butter directly to consumers. PCA only sells peanut butter to institutions and food manufacturers (some of which use it as an ingredient in other processed/packaged foods). Some food manufacturers use PCA peanut butter or peanut paste in baked or processed foods, such as crackers, cookies, cakes or ice cream to name a few.
Hmmm. Well I just bought a rainy jar today....
I’ve got two big jars of PB from Sam’s. We’ve been eating them and will continue to eat them. I guess ruining the tomato industry this past year wasn’t enough.
