Masonic rituals live on
Washington Times ^

...One-third of the signers of the Constitution, many of the Bill of Rights signers and America's first few presidents (except for Thomas Jefferson) were Freemasons, a fraternal organization that became public in early 18th-century England.

...Still, as the first president, George Washington had to come up with appropriate rituals for the new country. He borrowed many of them from Masonic rites he knew as "worshipful leader" of a lodge in Alexandria.

His Masonic gavel is on display at the Capitol Visitor Center. Until this inauguration, Washington's Masonic Bible - on which he swore his obligations as a Freemason - was used for the presidential oath of office. President-elect Barack Obama will use Abraham Lincoln's Bible.

He isn’t. The rumor started when the Prince Hall Lodge was putting on an inauguration ball and fundraiser for any brethren who happened to be in town. In this announcement, they made a specific statement that neither Obama nor Biden where Masons, however, they where invited to the ball.

Here is the original FR thread on the ball. In the link is the statement of his not being a member.

Correction on previous, it wasn’t a Prince Hall ball, it was a Grand Lodge hosted ball.

Do freemasons not have in their history a vow to prefer fellow freemasons in their non-craft affairs?

Any such organisation is inevitably going to become the subject of conspiracy theories—it’s as inevitable as anti-semitism, and for the same reasons.

I had never heard your suggestion that BO was, but here is a link that suggests he is a 32 degree Prince Hall mason.

I know nothing about Prince Hall, so cannot say anything about authenticity.

I think you’re craftily oversimplifying your answer.

At times I seem to answer my own questions:

Found the source on the rumor which follows-

Written by Dzenan Causevic

From http://www.sarajevo-x.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=36907

(This is a blog in Sarajevo-)

Suspect it is Croatian, which would explain the negative tone toward Masonry of all kinds. I cannot read the text on most of the blog, only this article.

This article is very suspect. I am now pretty certain it is totally wrong.

Truth in the Balkans is rare.

I have tried to study that region for years to understand why it is so volatile, but came to the conclusion that honest history of the region is impossible. I have sympathy with the Serbs, but hated who ruled them.

A very good friend of mine (also a Mason) knew the area well, his father was from Lebanon. He was stationed in the Balkans after WWII. He spoke Arabic well and was well versed with the conflicts of the region.

just because he's a Mason, no. but all things being equal plus one is a Mason means i know he's been investigated by his own Lodge and voted in my men that know him and are of good reputation.

so that will always be a tie breaker for me.

I read what you referenced and it does not change my original reply.

No.

If you are asking, are you more comfortable dealing with someone you know by reputation, the answer is yes? But not in the context you stated.

Your choice of the words “craftily oversimplifying” suggested intentional deception. Which I do not practice.

"I have tried to study that region for years to understand why it is so volatile"

You need look no farther than the Ottoman importation of Muzzies to the region.

You are correct, but it is currently more complicated than that.

The Orthodox Christians, Croatian Catholics, and the Muslims have been at war a long time. There have been atrocities that would repulse the most resistant soldier to the point it is a blood feud.

The atrocities that the Muslims did with the SS during WWII were inhuman. The things they are accused to having done in Kosovo are possibly worse. (organ harvesting)

The news that was reported in Bosnia and later in Kosovo by the press, was largely trumped up against the Serbs.

I still do not understand why the international media and our government took the sides that they did.

I know that Milosevic was a commie, but the Serb people were much more in tune with the west.

My point was, that although I prefer the Serb people to the others in the Balkans, there are no good guys there. It is long past that.

“Do freemasons not have in their history a vow to prefer fellow freemasons in their non-craft affairs?”

Not really. You do get to know and trust other fraternity members, so you end up doing business with them.

Masonry is a luciferian organization. You should research the organization your affiliated with and ask yourself if you’re a Christian if it violates your devotion to Christ. If not a Christian, then it doesn’t really matter for you anyway. Christians have no business belonging to freemasonry. If you seek to loose yourself from it’s grips I suggest the book THE BONDAGE BREAKER by Neil T. Anderson. Be sure to renounce your oaths to masonry & the oaths of your forefathers. Here is also a site that may help you out if you become enlightened and convicted about your involvement. http://www.christian-faith.com/html/page/renouncing_freemasonry

You may also start your research at this page here:

I hope this information helps you find the right path in life.

I disagree with your conclusion about something you obviously have no first hand knowledge of.

Like my family for the past 4 generations, I was raised as a Southern Baptist. And still have those convictions.

There has been a working relation of trust between the Baptist faith an many Masons in the U.S. since before James Madison was a member of the Virginia House of Burgess before the American revolution. He gained the support of the Baptist in Virginia because he was against the “establishment” of a state religion (Anglican).

There was always a comfort level between the two organizations until about 20 years ago. I was involved in discussion with the Southern Baptist Convention when the leadership tried to make an issue of this.

They paid for a study to see if the two organizations were compatible, and when the person commissioned to look at the history brought in his report. They simply said they did not agree with his conclusion. The historic facts were not what they sought.

I know you do not support a compulsory faith, and I don’t either.

Be cautious about accepting opinions of authors who go on a witch hunt to discredit this group.

Some healthy advice:

Only associate with those who seek the truth, but run from those who say they have found it.

“Some healthy advice:

Is what you say true? That is a ridiculous statement that you are making!

If there is truth then it must be absolute. If there is truth, it can be found.
Jesus is The Truth.

But our understanding of revelation is always growing—like a self-extracting file. One can say one has Truth, but one can never say (and this can be mathematically demonstrated) that one has fully apprehended it.
