CHIMPANZEES have long been known for their ability to mimic humans. Now scientists have found that baby chimpsâ mental development can even be more advanced than children of the same age.
At nine months, the animals are just as curious and capable of recognising carers and familiar objects as the average baby. When compared with infants kept in isolated conditions in orphanages, the animals are even more advanced.

Baby Chimps are smarter than 98% of researchers.
The more advanced the species, the less developed at birth. So naturally a baby chimp will outperform a baby human.
And a baby pig should out perform a baby monkey.
Yeah, well baby horses can walk within minutes of birth. Human babies can’t.
In 12 years, those human teenagers will be eating those baby horses at McDonalds. So there.
Absolutely true, which is why all of the arguments that justify abortion on the grounds of the mental development of the child are bogus unless the person making them (A) considers chimpanzees people who have as much of a right to life as newborn infants or (B) (like several philosophers including Peter Singer) are honest enough to support infanticide as well as abortion. There are two places where you can draw the line at where a human’s protected life starts without being arbitrary. Those points are fertilization and well after birth. Abortion and infanticide go hand-in-hand and are morally the same thing.
