State Department Floating Ammo Import Ban
Virginia Shooting Sports Association ^ | Friday, February 13, 2009 | VSSA President

Posted on 02/18/2009 9:41:49 AM PST by Greystoke

Ammos listed for this rumored ban include the .50BMG, 7.62x39mm Soviet, 7.62x51mm NATO, .308 Winchester, 5.56 NATO and .223 Remington. Additionally, we're hearing that an expansion of this proposed ban might be broadened to include the 6.8mm SPC, 9mm Parabellum, .40 S&W, and .45 ACP- among others.

In other words, State Department officials may be floating a trial balloon to see if there are howls of protest, or whimpers of compliance. Canadian elected officials who have directed this information to me say the move seems to be motivated by "emboldened" anti-gun officials who think they have a kindred spirit in President Obama.

Clinton eliminated 70% of the Federal Firearm Licenses.

That is fact, no speculation, no guessing, he just did it!

Yep. Just like the recently-reported letter urging Obama to clamp down on imported firearms, this is entirely a BATFE policy issue. All the President needs to do is make his wishes known to the agency administrator.

There are plenty of things they can do to f--- with us which don't even require an executive order, let alone new legislation.

I like the Yugoslavian stuff at ammunitiontogo.com. It is corrosive, but it is brass. It is pretty good stuff. Berdan primers will make it last for a LONG time.

Does anyone have a source where its still available and reasonably priced?

Under current market conditions, that is a contradiction in terms.

If few other source have any, why would someone who does sell it cheaply?

About three months before the election I began to see the handwriting on the wall and began buying ammo at Academy Sporting good. They had exclusive rights to Monarch ammo that was made in Russia and Croatia. I know some of you dislike Monarch ammo because it may be dirtier than Winchester or Remington but they were a lot cheaper and you could buy .223 for $5.69 per box 7.62 X 39 for $4.89 per box, .308 for $8.59, and the hand gun ammo was cheap also.

I have never had any trouble with any of the Monarch. But right after the election and to this day Academy can not get Monarch ammo on the shelves. So I don't know if Academy knows some thing or not. This ban may be already be taking effect.

I didn't say cheap, I said reasonable. I did find 1000 rounds for $252, which seems reasonable.

People are reasonable because they don't want to piss off their customer base by making them feel gouged.

Until this is shot down or is confirmed to be false, the State Department is on my do not do business with list.

I stand corrected. Most people mean "cheap" when they say "reasonable".

Reasonable is what they are willing to sell it for, and the customer is willing to pay for it.

It's called freedom.

I think people tend to forget that the supplier is in the same boat with us, not knowing if he can ever replace his inventory. Not knowing if The Messiah and his attack dog AG Holder, who unlike his own mentor Jackboot Janet, is now in charge of enforcing federal firearms laws, will ban import of his product, tax the snot out of it, or ban some of it entirely.

It is a way to attack the industry by taking away one major market for US ammo manufacturers. The firearms and ammo industry is one of the few industries that have not come to the government for a bailout. It is a billion dollar industry. I fully expect the administration to go after it at some point in the next four years.
