Go to Edmunds.com so you know the actual price the dealer is paying. Be sure to include dealer “hold backs”. You may also go to the user forums there and see what others are paying in your area.

Send emails to the Internet sales department of a number of dealers. Give them a price and tell them you’ll buy from the first one that comes closest to that price. Make sure you get a “drive out” price. Your goal should be to be able to go in, pay the agreed upon price, sign the paperwork and leave.

If you’re financing, make sure you have this worked out before you go in. The dealer may offer you better financing, which you should feel free to take, but you should go into the dealership with your own financing option so that they don’t screw you with a lousy interest rate.

Thank you.

I am webtv so Edmonds this last month I been trying to access has been so slow with my dial up I die.

Yes I was thinking of getting the terms of the Ford Loan and then asking my Loan Officer to give me a counter offer.

This is def. a gotta enjoy no more shopping (been dry for two years on that) and bare bones grocery, NEED fresh veggies but have a freezer full of stuff and being winter bean soup is good for the soul, maybe not the poot but keeps one warm for cheap...and my nickles and dimes are adding up nice.

LOL Feel Like a young 20yr old saving up for the first car, minus the loan.

First, you are buying one of the few vehicles that is still selling pretty well, so there is not a lot of haggling going to take place.

Second, I would suggest you look at buying lightly used. I went to AUTOTRADER.COM and did a search for 2008 and newer used Jeep Wranglers. I found hundreds of Wranglers with less than 5000 miles on them for under $20K. I found one close to me in NE PA that is a Sahara, very loaded Wrangler Unlimited with 1,656 miles for $20,594 before negotiating.

Search around as buying lightly used gets you the depreciation you pay for when buying new.

I will only drive a jeep wrangler. They have a great resale value. I’m still waiting for the Jeep Gladiator to arrive....sadly with this economy I doubt it happens.

Good advice.

I have a 2007, and by the time I put the plow on it, I have close to 28k in it.

And it is worth it.

I have a 2002 Wrangler with only 25,000 miles. I bought it new for $21,000. It's great for running around town or getting up to the cabin in the snow.

It is an excellent tool - in can do incredible things.

But, just like a chain saw, if you misuse it, it will kill you.

I am hanging on to my Wrangler and wife’s Liberty till the second year of the new eJeep (If it ever happens) If they do it right it should be a super asset for the survivalist like me.

4 WD in hub motors - 40 mile battery and high output dedicated generator - 400 mile range on a 12 gal. tank - If they are smart they will offer an inverter for both 120 and 240 volts. Multi-fuel ability would be great but they probably won’t go there (EPA would kill it).

How long have I been a Jeep nut? Hmmm first vehicle was a 1947 Willys - I put 320,000 miles on it with one overhaul. Even had a 3 pt. hydraulic hitch on it for farm equipment. When we had bad snows, I put chains on all 4 and 3 55 gal. drums in back - hauled heating oil and sans right seat carried them groceries and their mail all in one shot. That little red jeep was widely known - there was even one picture of us winching out a loaded fuel delivery truck that had skidded off the road with her that appeared in the local paper.

I walked into a chrysler dealer last year, and drove out in a brand new aspen for less than that....just flat out tell the salesman what you are willing to pay....sit there for a while as they play the little let me talk to my manager game, and do not be afraid to walk away....

I have a '99 and I LOVE IT!

If I were you, I would not buy new unless you can pay for it with cash. Go with a 3 year old jeep and you will pay less than half the new price. Going into debt for a car is not a real good idea.

I’ve got a late 90s one with about 160k on it. Did some work on it and it’s still going strong.

Late 90s is cool too. My brother has a ‘91 that he bought used and he loves it. It’s a nice rig and it’s part of the reason I bought mine. He’s a ittle crazier than I am with the rock crawling and that sort of thing. But we’ve both yet to encounter much they won’t take us through.

Willys made good stuff even if the old F-Head wasn't exactly a powerhouse.

My dad still has one that needs a lot of work that he bought and it is a 68.

I still have my 73 and one day when the pennies are available, I will swap out the worn out transmission for the good one I have. I don't have the facilities to any major work. Besides both transfer case output shaft seals are shot due to old age. It bleeds 90 wt. pretty well.
