The boy who became a father at 12 and now calls a jail cell home

By CHRISTIAN GYSIN 20th February 2009.

For one man there was a striking feeling of deja vu following the revelation that 13-year-old Alfie Patten had become a father.

Sean Stewart was just 11 when he had sex with his 15-year-old next-door neighbour Emma Webster.

Nine months later he was given the day off school to be present when his son Ben Louis was born on January 20, 1998 - just a month after Sean's 12th birthday.

But now, 11 years after becoming Britain's youngest father, 23-year-old Sean is only able to follow Alfie Patten's story from a prison cell.

Meanwhile, his former girlfriend Emma has moved on, having married another man. The couple live with 11-year-old Ben and their other children in a £200,000 house.

Sensation: Baby-faced Alfie Patten shocked the world when he hit the headlines as a dad at 13

Sean Stewart's life is a far cry from the promises he made when his son was born.

At the time he lived in Bedford with his single mother Theresa, then aged 38, who had seven children by three different men.

Emma was living next door with her mother Shirley, then 46, and 49-year-old father Ray, who was at the time an unemployed forklift driver.

The story of how Sean would clamber across a roof to meet with Emma made headlines all over the world.

No surprise here. Obsessively hedonistic people like that don’t seem to be destined for greatness. Sad that their parents failed them so miserably.

Pretty depressing. I would assume that these people - such as the boy’s mother, with her 7 kids by 3 different men - are like our (US) black population, totally dependent on the government for their lives. Not a recipe for success or happiness, unfortunately.

More proof that Ann Coulter was right.

The vicious circle of liberal government control.

Seems to me that as we drift apart from the brits in our manner of speaking we draw closer to the australians.

Chavs, they’re called in Great Britain. Sagging pants, violence, loud music, spendthrift ways and all.

CHAV

Interpreted as Council-Housed and Violent.

(Where "council house" or "council estate" in the UK refers to a public housing project.)

In America, we'd say "a thug from the [public] housing projects."

Not just the US black population. You see it everywhere.

This may seems a a bit mean, but, I got to ask, “Is there no social program in Britain that provides eyeglasses for youngsters?” You give these kids the benefit of good vision and that might go a long way in solving some of this.

That’s true. I think blacks were the lab rats for this social experiment, in the US, at least, although the total welfare state started a lot earlier in Europe and affected lower income European whites (prior to the immigrant boom). England seems to have started heading in this direction right after WWII; it wasn’t until the “Great Society,” whose main victims were blacks who had recently moved from the rural areas to the cities, that we really installed this depravity-producing welfare system in the US.

The Brits are going down the s***hole very very quickly. The only ones that show any kind of professionalism are the Hindu and Christian South Asians. The white lower-income scum are religion-less and the Muslim Pakis are terrorist camp joinees.

Damn, I thought I was doing quite well, but since I am British and not White I am actually unprofessional scum.

By the way, you forgot to laud the Sikhs and Chinese during your little ‘patronise the Asians’ post. The Chinese are even more successful in Britain than the South Asians.

Without wishing to split hairs too much, I have met and liked quite a few ‘ Muslim Pakis’. None of them have gone to Afghanistan to train, and one of them was recently being bullied by her Indian classmates because of the attacks last year. At least you are not the only one making crass sweeping generalisations.

I referred to 3 of the "classes" in Englands -> 1 The only ones that show any kind of professionalism are the Hindu and Christian South Asians.
2. The white lower-income scum are religion-less
3. and the Muslim Pakis are terrorist camp joinees.

At no point did I say that was describing all of British society. You seem to have inferred that to mean that there are only 3 categories, but then contradict by saying "I thought I was doing quite well, but since I am British and not White" --> so, you're not 1. a Paki terrocamp joinee or 2. a lower-income white.

You may be a British Asian, or you may be a Chinese-Brit. Your point about "The Chinese are even more successful in Britain than the South Asians." is quite true -- and that's one of the categories I did not mention (along with the white upper classes who made Britain the greatest Empire once upon a time but seem to have been stymied by the socialist Labourites)

Again, you're right -- that was a sweeping generalization. I have lived in the UK and would say this -- the muslims of Pak origin that I met seemed to be on the route to a training camp (just visit Tooting or Birmingham and see the streetside guys with their signboards) while the Muslims of Bangladeshi origin, on the other hand, seemed more interested in working hard and making money.
