Sean Penn's best actor award: a real high point
It might not have been enough to redeem what came before for some viewers, but Sean Penn's award as best actor brought a moment of real emotion to the Oscars telecast last night.
He won for his portrayal of gay rights activist Harvey Milk, and he used the platform to speak out for equality.
Penn started his remarks with humor, addressing the Hollywood audience as "Commie, homo loving sons of guns."
But by the end of his speech, he was castigating those who oppose gay marriage and telling them they will bring "shame" on their children and grandchildren.
"We've got to have equal rights for everyone," he said.
He concluded his remarks by saying he was "proud" to live in a country that elected an "elegant man" as president -- and one that "creates courageous artists" like Mickey Rourke, a fellow nominee.

But America is redeemable, says Spicoli. Because you can trick people into voting for the cool and elegant speech reader. Oh, and because someone finally cast Mickey Rourke in a film again after a couple decades. Yep.
And remember that he won because of Prop 8. And the late Charlton Heston got no claps for being an important part of the industry, because he was of the Wrong Political Persuasion. The Hollywood crowd could be the most narrow-minded group on the planet. Al Qaeda is twice as tolerant.
Because Hollywood worships sexual differences.
Not “accepts.” There is a difference.
Because Mickey Rourke’s supportive statements about Bush got to this imbecile so the actors threw a hissy fit and punished Mickey Rourke.
In Hollywood you have to be either a metrosexual or queer/lover like Penn & Clowney to survive.
Sean Who?
LOL
Harvey Milk and the Twinkie Killer are rolling in their graves.
Sean Penn is such a wanna be left over Maddona has hit that and left unsatisfied after he gave her a good black eye dork of an actor.
Where the heck were the sexy men type movie stars?
Disgusting spectacle, I knew what Spicoli was going to launch into before he opened his mouth. Even he had to acknowledge Mickey Rourke, for whom he knew deserved the Oscar more than he did. Mickey wuz robbed.
“This is the speech that conservative media voices are going to be railing against tomorrow. Bet on it.”
Hey, Zurawick,...we’re making fun of it tonight!
Their homosexual fantasizing is sick.
I loved Penns rant! I just laugh and chuckle every time one of these crybabies whines - - yet again - - about normal people winning an election victory. It brings joy to my heart!
Get a room.
Seeing how Ronald Reagan himself was on the same side as Milk in the Prop. 6 debate, it's amazing how they try to portray Milk as this cliche'd leftist icon.
Not surprising, of course.
Hollywood--style over substance.
Really, that single quote says it all.
What is a nitrate popper?
Yeah, why wait?? :)
I also recall the Impostor President saying the same thing.
So I must conclude that Sean Penn disagrees with the “Elegant President”.
Shame on you Obama.
I think it's some kind of little "smelling salt" style drug for a heart attack victim, or something, but it was the RAGE among gay men in the 70s (and who knows, maybe Milky himself?) to get "high" by sniffing these and getting a huge rush. "Don't leave home for the bathhouse without them."
So I thought it an appropriate add to the title. Feel free to mentally substitute "Barf Alert" as well.
Milk-$28,000,000-in gay dollars.
>>>What were the numbers at the office....did many actually see this movie?
Good question. I looked it up and the answer is “No”.
Domestic Total as of Feb. 22, 2009:
$28,176,000
+ Foreign: $7,861,492
= Worldwide: $36,037,492
Production Budget: $20 million
In Release: 89 days / 12.7 weeks
The horrible and unnecessary Friday the 13th remake topped that the first weekend I believe.
And didn't Rourke threaten to kick his ass back in the day?
thank you for the info....
next year....if there is one....no one will remember who or what won....
I caught that too and was infuriated, not one person clapped when Charleton Heston (MOSES!) appeared on the screen. Commie b@stards all of them!
Which means that to them, someone’s life does not matter if they were different politically.
I guess we could rate people’s lives according to Hollywood Rules: a normal liberal equals One Person. A gay or black liberal equals Two People. And a conservative equals NOTHING. Worthless. Their contribution to the film industry is barely worth noting.
I gotcha beat, I don’t go to any of these movies! BTW, my husband won an oscar for best tile setter! Oscars are meaningless except to all those self-centered commie b@stards!
Maybe Sean Penn Laden will get arrested again and get a nice cellmate who will give him more than just his fantasies.

....thread hijack.
Where the heck were the sexy men type movie stars?Forest Lawn Glendale
I didn’t see any movies except Bond and Batman (I saw Die Hard 2 on Cinemax yesterday, never saw 2 before, I liked it) but I try to the pick winners, one year I got them all.
A few week ago I thought Rourke was a lock. I realized the writing was on the wall for the purple mafia instead.
I must say I find the overhype of Slumdog Millionaire grating but thank goodness it beat Curd ,er Milk.
Looks like Penn is milking Harvey..
Ratings keep sliding too.
I usually don’t see anything new for a year or more (because of my ear problem with the theater noise level) until it comes out on tv or DVD. “Die Hard 2”, that’s about 20 years old now. Saw it several times on HBO when it was run after its release to cable and again last year. Nothing beats the first one, though. Action classic. The 3rd was only “OK” and the recent one was bleh (although that’s where I discovered the hottie on my FReeper page near the bottom, Mary Elizabeth Winstead).
I was pulling for Mickey all evening, but had the sickening feeling “politics” would win out, and it did. Thanks heavens it didn’t win best picture or they’d have unleashed a third round of barf. It was bad enough the young screenwriter pontificating on leaving behind those nasty small town values so he could be reemed in the behind on the left coast. Viva la fudge.
And unlike what most of these gay militants believe, most of us object to their politics more because they’re trying to shove their... down our throats and swallow what they’re spewing. If they kept their business and their crap to themselves and stopped attacking us with their agenda, we’d have a lot less of a problem. As I’ve said before, we’ve gone from Oscar Wilde’s the love that dare not speak its name to the love that won’t shut the f**k up, already. If only Rourke had barked at his Oscar theft, “F**kin’ faggots !” That would’ve been the money shot and a well deserved slap back at these gay extremists.
As for “Slumdog”, well, I know little about it, so I was rooting for it as the least of the evils (mind you, I didn’t want Frost/Nixon’s participants to win, either, yet another nasty attack on a President they won’t let rest in f**king peace already). That reminds me, I should put a pic of that angel that was in “Slumdog” on my FReeper page.
Remember when the Oscars awarded good movies and good acting....
“The 3rd was only OK”
It was ok with a vengeance! Excellent use of When Johnny Comes Marching Home.
I heard some guy say Langella “humanizes” Nixon.
The Oscars are should be only be an hour long. You might as well only watch the last 20 minutes when they do the big 4 awards. Kate Winslet’s speech started off well then degenerated into where’s the hook territory. I want to hear a 15 second acceptance speech.
I didn’t care for the break with tradition in having past nominees of the same sex present the actor awards.
Yawn ... Nobody gave a crap about your movie Sean. You suck.
Had no idea what Penn-head won his "O" for then saw this thread.
Obviously, in Hollywood, the road to suckess is portraying homosexuals.
Tom Hanks - Oscar for a homosexual lawyer
Sean Penn - Oscar for a homosexual politician.
Heath Ledger - Didn't get an Oscar for a homosexual sheepherder but got it this year to make up for it.
The Oscar’s and the Nobel Peace Prize nothing more than gifts to ridiculous liberals.
Thanks for posting the boat shot. Never get enough of that one! LOL!
Spicoli lives on!
Hah. Yer right!
