The Bay Area took center stage at the Oscars when Sean Penn was honored for his performance in "Milk."
Not only did the story of the former San Francisco supervisor put the Bay Area in the middle of the show but Bay Area resident, Penn, used his acceptance speech as an opportunity to dig into California politics and a hotbed Bay Area issue.
In case you missed it, check out his speech below. Or for more on Penn's speech, check out Penn Pleas for Gay Rights, Rourke at Oscars.

From traitor (in Iraq giving comfort to the enemy and speaking against his country EVEN AS the US was mounting an invasion) to flamming f@g, Penn continues his repugnance.
“And the commentaries said that it was good to see a more light-hearted Academy Awards, without all the heavy political commentary.”
I thought it was refreshing...to see someone telling the truth up there and calling a spade a spade...
More than useful idiots; complicit.
IMHO
I have got to disagree he is a terrible actor. He overacts horribly. However, on the plus side his speech at the oscars was closest I’ve ever heard to the truth coming out of his mouth. They are a “bunch of commie, homo loving sons of....”
I am planning to win an Oscar in 2010.
It shouldn’t be hard. First, I’ll have to find a movie where I can play a gay borderline-retarded drug addict who fights discrimination. Next, I’ll have to die for real at some point in 2009. That’s okay—sacrifice for the art.
Wait...I’d also have to become a commie in real life. Whoops, that’s too much to ask. Never mind.
I french kissed Hugo Chavez and I liked it-Sean Penn
Just noticed your tagline. That’s great and unfortunately very true.
That is so gay.
His father frech kissed Hitler and Stalin.
That is so gay.
(Barney) Frankly speaking, yes it is.
