I've used 2 different wireless cards (Linksys and Encore) on my desktop they randomly disconnect requiring me to reconnect Sometimes it says its connected but I still have to disconnect and then reconnect; sometimes I have to uninstall and reinstall the driver. I have 3 computers on one network the only one that disconnects is the one on Vista. Any suggestions appreciated

Any programs running in the background that might be throwing it off like a file sharing prog or any other program that is different that than the working computers?

I have the same issue with my XP desktop and Linksys usb adapter.. now my Broadcom and Intel systems have no problem. But I must also say that the Vista PC running my stereo is using a linksys and it stays up fine.

By switching to a netgear card, we were able to keep my mother's computer connected.

I had to use the netsh interface to change a couple of settings on my wireless to stop this. It was really annoying.

Last year I had the same issue with my Netgear.
Although the provided software says there are no updates, I went to their site and found updates galore.
I updated to the latest version and haven’t had one problem since.

It’s the wireless hub. I have had to replace them < yearly.

It seems to be all of the major vendors — I think I have had 4 or 5 in the last 3 years. Te latest one seems to be holding up better than most.

I have a vista partition, that I’m getting ready to delete, but one day, I noticed, that the WiFi networks I had set up, disappeared from the list. No idea why. Just **poof** gone.

Say what? I’ve had routers/hubs for years. There’s got to be something wrong for you routers to “die” like that.

Friend of mine had this problem. He checked the wireless setup and it was set to roam between 801.11b and 801.11g. It would connect for 10 seconds, then move through the other protocols.

They still work for the wireful part, just not the wireless (or very well -- more frequent rebooting, sometimes back to factory). I did tend to buy at the lower end. This one that has lasted was more in the upper middle end.

OOhh - forgot about that one. yes, I remember I had to disable the multi-speed. Lower speeds still work, though.
