WINNIPEG, Manitoba (AP) - A Canadian judge ruled Thursday that a man accused of beheading and cannibalizing a fellow Greyhound bus passenger is not criminally responsible due to mental illness.
The decision means Chinese immigrant Vince Li will be treated in a mental institution instead of going to prison. The family of victim Tim McLean dismissed the trial as a "rubber stamp" that allows Li to get away with murder.
"A crime was still committed here, a murder still occurred," said Carol deDelley, McLean's mother. "There was nobody else on that bus holding a knife, slicing up my child."
The judge said Li should not be held criminally accountable for stabbing McLean dozens of times last July and dismembering his body while horrified passengers fled.

Isn't socialism great?
Second thread on this.
Question for the judge.. what sane person would do this? of course he was mental, what does that have to do with guilt or not.. by the judge's standard, no one is responsible for crime because sane people don't do these things.
Once again...just when I thought I couldn’t be shocked by any news story. “Now I’ve seen and heard it all”, I said. Nope. They just keep on comin’!
And yet he ate the supposed evil?
The judge should be carted away for some serious testing.
The problem is that the bus line promised a meal for the passengers...
That's nasty. Funny, but nasty.
Remind me to do all my murders in Canada. The killer should be executed, and the judge is the one who should be sent to the nuthouse.
I’ve heard of Greyhound buses being involved in a head on before but a head off?
A Chinese guy named Li
On a greyhound got hungry
In the next seat
He found something sweet
Now he’s reading his fortune Cookie
You mean they´re finally defining Islam as a mental disease!? We´re making progress!!!
Woops. I thought this was about the guy who cut his wife´s head off...
There should be a “guilty but insane” verdict.
Even if this guy is successfully treated in a mental hospital, he should never have an opportunity to leave an institution. If he is ever judged sane, he can serve the rest of his life in a secure facility.
a man accused of beheading and cannibalizing a fellow Greyhound bus passenger is not criminally responsible due to mental illnessI'm not gonna say it. I'm not. Ya can't make me.
Ding! Ding! Ding!
We have a winner! Post of the day.
