Horse riding moneky flees

A HORSE-riding monkey has fled his circus and gone on the run. Reggie, a brown spider monkey who performs as a jockey in the Liebling Family Circus, got upset after his handler argued in front of him.

Described as “an angel”, Reggie gave his handler the slip after overhearing him row with an animal rights protester outside his cage in Fruitland, Florida.

A circus spokesman said: “Reggie got involved in the argument in his own way.

“Monkeys are very emotional. You have to forgive them.”

Now his trainers hope he might be lured home by pregnant girlfriend, Priscilla.

The pouting primate who performs alongside 20-year-old Reggie, has been stationed at the edge of nearby woods in the hope she will tempt her sweetheart home.

Circus owner Franciszka Liebel added: “I think he’s confused and lonely.”

My neighbor tells the story of years ago when she looked out in her backyard and saw a monkey with a parrot on its shoulder! A few good blinks, shake the head - look at her drink - they are still there! She said it was the craziest thing she had ever seen!

She called the police and they said that they had escaped from a traveling circus! They came out to try to catch them, but failed at first. She saw them again several days later - the parrot and monkey still together! Don’t recall what the end result was.

I heard about that. Somebody caught both animals, contacted the owner, who sold him the monkey because the monkey could talk.

Turned out, the parrot was a ventriloquist.
