State Representative Annazette Collins found herself in the hot seat after she suggested that kids be educated about guns. She says downstate, children are educated about weapons at a young age....why not in more urban areas.
"Down state they teach you that guns are meant for hunting, for protection..here in the urban cities, all they see are guns on tv..and they gun down people." said Collins.
She says she only suggested the thought of gun education to help get House Bill 48 passed. The bill would require universal background checks and ban private handgun sales.
But the majority of people who attended a town hall meeting in Garfield Park were opposed to the plan. ""Teaching kids about guns in the classroom is absurd." said resident Randall Blakey.
"That's like saying we might as well sell drugs legally..we don't want access to guns. We have children dying in this city. We're talking about teaching gets kids in grammar school how to shoot guns? That's crazy." said Father Michael Pflager of St. Sabina Church.
Collins says education is the key and taking a hands on approach would take away the mystery and allure of guns.

Let's stick to the stuff that makes more sense... like early sex ed and the acceptance of the homosexual lifestyle.

One woman finally “gets it” and the libs rip her a new one....they’re all mentally deranged, the whole dag-gum bunch.
There is not a one of em worth a plugged nickel. They’re useless to society and totally devoid of any sensible reason. They belong in a mental institution.
I gun-proof my kids, not kid-proof my guns.

Stick to what you know Father!Michael Pflager is a hard core leftist agitator with ties to ACORN and the whole corrupt Chicago machine. I would say I don't know why the Catholic church doesn't kick him out, except I know full well why it doesn't. Their "social justice" agenda (otherwise known as wealth envy agenda) is pretty much a duplicate of the democrat's platform except where it is farther to the left. They support gun control, and father himmler just a couple of years ago led a protest along with Dee Revin jackasson (if memory serves me right) against a Chicago gun shop to try and get it closed down.
OH and any of you room temperature IQ catholic yap dogs who care to attack me for pointing out the communist leanings of the Catholic church just go to the American Conference of Catholic Bishops web site and click on the "social justice" header and read it for yourself. They proudly proclaim their leftist agenda for all to see.

Years ago, when I was in school, schools not only had gun safety classes for those who wanted to take them, they also had a shooting range that was primarily used by the ROTC students, but could be used for non-ROTC gun safety classes.

Dad told me that not only did most school basements have an indoor range, but you kept your LR propped up in the coat room and the 22s in your pocket.
Sigh.

I gun-proof my kids, not kid-proof my guns.
Exactly!! My hubby and I have 2 hunting rifles, they stay unloaded, ammo put away in another location, simply because there is no need to keep hunting rifles loaded on a day to day basis. My handgun however... that is another story. It stays loaded on my bedside table right there for anyone that enters my bedroom to see. I bought it while attending a gun class for women down at the local shootery. When I got home with it, I immediately took my kids out and taught them how to use it. They know they are allowed to look at it (while not touching as they know it's loaded) any time they want to. If they want to touch it, all they have to do is tell me, I will be happy to unload it and let them. If they want to shoot it, weather permitting (and ammo supply) I will gladly take them out into the back yard and let them shoot it. The most important thing is they know why I have it.

Sex ed is important because what kids don't know could wind up hurting them, and sex ed itself doesn't encourage sexual activity.
Gun ed is wrong, because what they don't know could wind up killing them, and gun ed itself encourages use of guns.
They need to pick one. They can't have it both ways.

We're really all the same person, posting from different libraries.

And, I hasten to add, you left out several classic humorists on FR.
