It's kind of like that run on Elmo dolls: Running out of ammunition

Firearms instructor Ron Herman can't seem to keep enough ammunition on hand for his monthly National Rifle Association pistol-training class.

An increase in demand for ammo and resulting shortages have caused the group for the first time to re-evaluate whether it will be able to hold the gun classes, he said.

"The ammo is being snapped up as soon as it comes in," the North Side resident said. "The potential for new gun laws has the Average Joe saying, 'I've got to get mine before the gun laws change and I can't get (ammunition).'

"It's kind of like that run on Elmo dolls. People are in a frenzy."

Bullets are running low throughout central Ohio as a nationwide ammunition shortage hits the area.

One is warm and cuddly, and can’t stop yourself from hugging. The other is just some silly plastic toy made in China.

"Gun owners are very politically savvy, and this administration poses a risk to their freedoms," she said. "Add to that an economy that is struggling, which increases the chance of home invasions, and people want to be able to protect their families."

Not to mention that bullets will make better currency than dollars once zero gets through destroying the economy.

Two of my favorites.

Good for my Glock 21, Springfield XD45 Compact, Norinco SKS, and Yugo M70 (AK47).

I'm addicted to reliable, tough guns in effective and common calibers.

I can, but have to drive futher for them now. What is worse for reloaders here is that ammo components (Brass and bullets) cannot be shipped to my state any more. I look at the Midway catalogue and steam about it.

Well, the Range is a lot cleaner now. I always clean up after myself, and find I usually have twice as much empty brass coming home as I took there. Now I LIKE the slobs. Most people buy the stuff and are not reloaders, so it's all once-fired, and the boxes are there in the rubbish.

Reloaders always leave clean firing lines.

Consider yourself lucky the last time I went to the range I was only able to pick up a hand full of .223s and a couple of .308s. Nobody leaves anything that can be reloaded any more.

I think the rifle guys are more likely to reload, and the shooting style is often different. I notice it myself, that even (good) 7.62X39 and .223 is pretty rare in the brass bucket. But visit the handgun plinking range or even the indoor range and we get these pray and sprayers who run out of ammo and time and just leave the mess.

(Bless them)

(Except fot the Blazer users.)

At the pistol I use, we've gotten a lot of new shooters who leave us lots of new brass in all the popular calibers.
