Listened to the Boston Bruins at Montreal Canadiens game tonight on WBZ radio; as Rene Rancourt (I believe) started to sing the Star Spangled Banner, a huge chorus of boos could be heard during the song. At the start of Oh Canada there was a cheer, but no disrespect.
I know of the long rivalry between the two teams. But how rude to boo the U.S. national anthem--why, you'd think the folks up North wouldn't do that anymore--since we have The One in office. Heck, I can't see us booing Oh Canada during a Bruins-Canadiens game at TD BankNorth Garden, or a Blue Jays-Red Sox tilt at Fenway.
Why do they hate us? They weren't so much booing the Bruins or Boston, they were booing the U.S.A. The country that could well save their butts if they were struck. A good customer for energy and other products. Why do they hate us? I'm sure any conservative Canadians out there wouldn't dare to be so rude, but the folks at the Bell Centre sure were.
Well, I thought, I hope the Bruins can beat 'em--to make up for the bad karma at the start of the game.
Final: Boston 4 Montreal 2 (incl. an empty net goal at the end)
The fans started heading for the exits before the final siren sounded and there was again a loud BOOOOOOOOOOOO.
Now the Canadiens trail the best of 7 Series 3 games to none. I believe this is the 100th anniversary of the hockey team. And they could be "one and done" in the playoffs.
But I'm guessing this isn't the first time hockey fans in Montreal were so rude toward the U.S. Anthem.

>>The Bruins took the Montreal Canadiens best punch last night and shook it off as if it were an ear flick. The Habs, trying desperately not to go down three games in the Eastern Conference quarterfinals, threw everything they could at the Bs last night in front of their rabid, towel-waving, __Star-Spangled Banner-booing__ crowd at the Bell Centre.

>>8. The one with the upside-down flag (1992, Braves vs. Blue Jays)
Well, Georgia wouldn’t be Georgia if there wasn’t a flag dispute, would it? This one began before Game 2 at Fulton County Stadium, a matchup against Toronto during the first international World Series. The Marine Corps color guard made a small error: It carried the Canadian flag upside down. When the series shifted north of the border, Toronto vendors did a brisk business selling upside-down U.S. flags in the Skydome.
While Americans generally like Canadians, the reverse is not true. There’s a lot of envy up there. Who knows what there is down here to envy any more!
Yes...though some libs here envy the Canadian health care
plan (so, move up there!) or some celebs pledged to move to Canada “if Bush got elected” (but didn’t follow thru on the
promise!)
The classless Canadians can go take a long walk off a short pier into a icy lake.
Well, whomever was putting the flag on the pole somehow got it wrong! Exactly, though.
Well, at least they weren’t chanting “Osama” like the Mexicans do...in LA.

I would like to think that the Marine Corps color guard had members that were smart enough to know what end was up on the Canadian Flag. Or perhaps, they had other motivations.
And it is apparent that Canadians have long memories.
Yes, though the Marines, etc. did apologize. The announcer at SkyDome said that they were sorry and wanted to humbly “request the privilege of carry the Canadian colors again”...

>>What a disgrace to boo the United States National Anthem.I remember this happening before in Montreal and it took some of the old timers of those great Montreal Canadians teams to speak out on behalf of our country. We are neighbors to Canada and many of these ex-hockey players have played and live now in the States. When this happened before,Boston fans had the class to not do it back to them when Reny Rencor (sic) sang the Canadian National Anthem.Sorry about the spelling Reny.Your (sic) a class act too.To all the Boston Bruin Fans and America, don’t feed into these disrespectful Canadian fans who dishonor us.We all would love to drop the gloves with those who attended this game tonight and booed.Chris Nilan was a Boston guy who played for them and won a Stanley Cup for them. I bet Chris would love to drop the gloves with anyone of them. Do you think any of them would drop the gloves? Disrespect is what it is and the commissioner of the NHL should speak up and say something denouncing the actions of those Montreal fans who attended this game.I’ll tell you this, the old time hockey fans of Montreal years past would never disrespect America the way you fans did tonight. You did a great disrespect to your selves and the rest of Canada tonight by booing the United States of America.God Bless the United States of America and those who denounce what happened in Canada.God Bless us all.
So now that happened in LA? Last I heard it happened in Mexico City.
Conservatives pride themselves on accuracy.
Well, it is HOCKEY.
You can blame this one on Billy Bob Thorton.
F Canada
Little touchy today, eh? Or do you simply don’t like to be corrected?
You fooled me.
“”Why do they hate us?””
Us? Whom am us anyway?
