Bill would require ammo sellers to be licensed, ban online sales

On the 10th anniversary of the deadly Columbine High School shootings in Littleton, Colo., California lawmakers announced new efforts Monday to keep guns and ammunition away from people who are barred from possessing those items. Assemblyman Kevin de Leon, D-Los Angeles, is backing a bill to require people who sell handgun ammunition to be licensed. It would also require sellers to conduct business face-to-face, bar Internet and mail-order sales, and require a thumbprint and other identifying information of people who buy ammo.

I’ll give it some serious thought if we FIRST require the same ID requirements in order to vote!

Maybe...

This thread has just added to the FreeRepublic "bang list" (firearms interest list) by adding the keyword "banglist".

Any time a firearms-related thread is created on FreeRepublic, please be sure to add the "banglist" keyword to it so that interested FReepers don't miss it. Just a suggestion.

I’ll tell you what, I’ll make one concession on this constitutional right in exchange for a compromise. People who fill out an ATF Form 4473 to purchase a firearm will submit thumb print and have their ID checked against NICS and people who cast a vote will submit a thumb print and have their ID checked against a database that verifies their citizenship and eligibility to vote in one-and-only-one congressional district.

Think these Democrats will go for the compromise?

what gets me is that online and mailorder sales are much more dangerous for a criminal because it requires a form of payment where they know your name and address. Also you have to sign for your package as the deliverer can’t leave ammo unattended.

We have already lost so much. I remember when I was in college, going down to the local K-Mart to buy my first .22 revolver. I ended up getting an H&R 49er which was a decent, accurate revolver for $49. It wasn’t a great gun but it got me into shooting revolvers and I later traded it in on a Colt Challenger which really was a great gun.

I bought several at Wal-Mart and Gibsons. Now I don’t think any of them still sell handguns. There were a bunch of other discounters who also sold pistols and revolvers. Among them, JM Fields, National Bellas Hess, and Service Merchandise.

The government and media have driven most of them out of the business. A few still sell long guns but that is also changing as my local Wal-Mart no longer carries them.

Good point.

I’d give it about two seconds of consideration. However, the LibTards need to realize that criminals don’t give a rip about more laws, new laws. They don’t pay them heed anyway. It ain’t rocket science...

The criminal types will still arm themselves.

Better we should focus on enforcing current laws and see how that works, before we go adding more.

Seems to me The Constitution prohibits that, not that it matters

The same basic requirement is in place already in NJ. The only difference is that the law hasn’t caught up to the internet yet.

You have to have a FPID(Firearms purchaser ID) which includes a fingerprint to buy handgun ammo. The FPID requires an extensive criminal and mental background check and takes months to obtain.

While it’s not the end of the world, it’s really really irritating.

I bought an Astra Constable .380 from Wal-Mart in Okmulgee OK. in 1974. The gun was a good quality copy of the Walther PP but not an exact copy. One thing I remember about it was it was astoundingly accurate. I mean off the scale accurate.

Although I never tried it on paper at 100 yards, I wouldn’t have been surprised if it would have produced 2 inch groups. It would put them all into one large hole at 25 yards.

NOTE: The 2nd Amendment is SELF-incorporated to all government entities at every level. It is MORE ABSOLUTE than the 1st Amendment, or any of the others, because the wording forbids not only CONGRESS, but ANYONE from infringing on it. The 1st says “Congress shall make no law...”. The 2nd say “shall NOT be infringed!” Period! End of debate!
