This is a short video clip from the the Oscar nominated nature film L'Ours (1988) aka "The Bear".
It's a nature film with almost no human dialogue. In this picturesque story an orphaned bear who is confronted by a hungry cougar. This clip only runs about 4 minutes, but it's enough to really give that sense of pride in God's creation.
The movie is a true classic in the sense that we so often fail to really understand what it is like for the most powerful of God's animals to be young and vulnerable.

Very cool. Only four minutes but it must’ve taken hours if not days to stage and film all that.

A friend emailed that video the other day. Great video, but I don’t think the cub was an orphan. Has a terrific ending.

For those who haven’t seen the whole movie, I highly recommend it.
Great movie, beginning to end.

Great video, but I dont think the cub was an orphan. Not to give away too much of the movie, but the cub was an orphan.

Very cute and I love bears. It sounds like they dubbed a human making the sound as the little cub runs for it’s life. I am not crazy how nature documentary makers use a script to tug at your heart strings. Costeau would do it all the time and it was always “alas the poor creature must die.”
Very cute though and you really are sick about the poor little bear’s situation.

I’m glad you put “wildlife film” in the title. Otherwise the modern slang of “cougar” and “bear” would have given it an entirely different potential. :)

I would have liked it better if they didnt try to make the bear seem human.
The film work is stunning

I bought that when it came out........the childlike sound effects from baby bear sort of ruined the amazing filming IMO.

Listen to the bear’s sounds as it is fleeing. Sounds like a human dubbed in making the “panicky” sounds. It is incredible footage.

I had the sound down too low to hear that! SP is watching a movie here and I'll garner dirty looks for turning up the sound TOO HIGH. :-)

Yes, but adult male grizzlies do not adopt orphaned cubs. They kill and eat them.

LOL...I remember seeing this when it came out...it was kind of nice, I vaguely remember there was a scene where the bear ate some mushrooms, and...well, you know...he thought he was back in the sixties...:)

Well spoken! The headline said that it had about zero language in it, so I didn't think sound would matter anyway. :-)

Well, don’t be too upset. God has great purposes for animals in our lives. We learn a lot of life lessons caring for them, understanding dependence of something on us, things like loyalty, obedience, love, compassion. I am always reminded of when Nathan (I believe) confronts David for what he did to Uriah, and he uses a story about a rich and poor man, and the poor man had just one little lamb he loved so much, he would let it sit in his lap and eat off his plate.
God loves His animals. We don’t have to be ashamed to as well. Some people, that’s all they have to love in their lives. One size doesn’t always fit all.

Yeah, I would agree, they are not people, not “just like us”. It’s a gross oversimplification. Morally, no. Physically alive, can be caring to their young, that kind of thing, yeah.
The one thing that is cool about animals is that not being moral or immoral, they are the most innocent creatures alive. They just are.

That’s why they are innocent. They are just doing what they do. They get into trouble when they do things we don’t want them to do, but I would not call them doing things we don’t want ‘sinning’ against us.

Of course not. Animals are Animals.
The ones that make good pets tend to be pack animals that respond to our alpha status.
Sometimes they challenge us, that’s all.

OK. Now that was cool!
The next time the government wants to let wolves lose in Montana, or any other western state, I think the ranchers should take a lesson from those Mongols. After all, how can you fine and eagle?
One endangered species against another, Nature at its best.
Again, thanks I have never before seen such a thing. I will go to bed tonight, truly enlighten.

The wolves are now off the endangered species list up here in Montana, which means the fine for killing one out of season just dropped to $1700 or so, not that you'd ever get caught if you shoot and shut up.
We may have an actual season up here next fall.
Either way, the wolves are getting controlled with extreme prejudice.

Damn! That was awesome. I would never have thought an eagle could kill a wolf. Pretty neat when the wolf was getting the better of one eagle and another one attacked.

It only looks like the wolf has that eagle. The eagle goes right for the nose and head of the wolf. That eagle had that wolf by the nose and the wolf was trying to shake it off.
