Gov. Deval Patricks free wheels for welfare recipients program is revving up despite the stalled economy, as the keys to donated cars loaded with state-funded insurance, repairs and even AAA membership are handed out to get them to work.
But the program - fueled by a funding boost despite the states fiscal crash - allows those who end up back on welfare to keep the cars anyway.

Where do I sign up?
Me too. All the recipients are probably the governor’s relathieves.
I am a one-eyed, drunken, Nicaraguan illegal immigrant on welfare. I cannot buy a car, because all my money goes for booze. I am mostly too drunk to walk, so can I have a free car?
This is Obama’s fault.
Who would this not anger?

Worked as a supervisor at the Texas Workforce Center after Katrina (my background was in employment counseling, although I had been in the hurricane myself). We were giving away laptop computers, loaded with software, with a free ISP! Also, we gave welfare recipients Target & Wal-Mart gift cards, Texaco gas cards or bus passes, FREE child care, Section 8 subsidized housing, cash every month, Food Stamps, clothes for interviews, bulk foods, etc., etc. I knew theyd get around to cars someday. Next will be free HUD/Bank foreclosure houses.
It’s hard to comprehend.
It would be very cool for a one-eyed, drunken, Nicaraguan illegal immigrant on welfare. One who cannot buy a car, because all his money goes for booze. One who is mostly too drunk to walk, so can he have a free car?
Tax-payer funded. There. Fixed it.
Every single person that gets a free car.
Its hard to comprehend.
not for a liberal.
only a liberal could think this is a good idea.
Can you imagine what the policy meetings were like??
We can get X% off welfare if we only gave them a $30,000 car (of course it costs the government 50k to buy, but hey it isn’t there money.)
You drive, you’re too drunk to sing.
OOOO! OOOOOO! I want a Mustang! I want a Mustang! Can we pick the color, too? Make mine yellow.
I really feel sorry for this Katrina victims. However, how can the victims (most of them welfare recipients) claim they lost a lot of things that they didn’t have before Katrina happened. I remembered a black guy was interviewed on the street right after Katrina. He cried and said that he lost his son or nephew — they drowned. As a result, there were a lot of sympathy contributions - thousands and thousands of dollars. It turned out he was a fraud.
Wasn’t that the intent of The People’s Car, Volkswagen? Everyone would have a car, an economical sensible car, the same car.
I looked them in the eye when they where crying. Nothing I could do to help. I tried.
Not only a free car, but you can be the next president.
Bills the taxpayers. There. Fixed that one, too.
If these are vehicles that have been donated, they are probably hunks of junk for the most part.
I work for a church and we get a few vehicles every year donated to us and, for the most part, they are junkers. Though not all.
We give them away to needy families but we don't pay for the insurance, etc.
Nor do we bill the taxpayers for repairs.

From the Rats viewpoint, the vote is most important.
I’m quitting my job, stopping my mortgage payments and moving to Boston tomorrow!!! And to think I thought the Great State of Texas had it right all this time! Why work when the liberal taxpaying suckers of Boston will pay for everything!!!! Here I come Matt Damon!!!
My $500.00 vehicle, that I bought four years ago, is on its last legs.
I am actively seeking a replacement, and have saved/secured the ability to pay $1500.00 cash for basic transportation.
Nothing fancy, but I would like A/C and a working radio.
Who dreams up these entitlement programs?
I have just reached the point that I can afford health insurance again, but not a car mortgage.
I am really curious about the thought processes of these people.
Give ‘em all bikes instead...
Sheesh! The looters are sure in their heyday this year.
Yes they are & its sickening.
I’ve already got the car. How about FREE GAS? (Drill, baby, drill.)
