Breweries and beer drinkers are excited to learn Asheville has tied with Portland, Oregon as America's number one beer city. Asheville's Pisgah Brewery and Highland Brewing Company say they've worked hard to help Asheville achieve that title. But, they say they couldn't do it without a supportive community and beer drinkers who demand the highest quality. The poll was conducted by beer writer Charlie Papazian for www.examiner.com which is located in Baltimore.

Asheville is lib heaven. They’ll tax the sh%% out of beer soon, as they are doing in the NW to raise money for their usual evil crapola. Put beer makers out of biz. Wine spritzers will remain cheap though. As will arugula and bean sprouts.

Well, I guess we know which city will be #1 on the hit list for the MADD/WCTU Gestapo now. Drink up while you still can.

Asheville is lib heaven. Here's news for you, so is Portland. Hell, Oregon has voted for a Rat in every Presidential election since Reagan won his second term.
As a former Northwesterer, I'm partial to Portland as a "beer city". But, in all fairness, I've tried some of the great brews from Highland Brewing Company just last fall, and I'm afraid that my conclusion calls for more, er, research...
