Michelle Obama stresses the importance of art - at the museum where she and Barack had their first date

Michelle Obama returned to the scene of her first date with President Barack Obama as she reopened a wing of the Metropolitan Museum of Art....

Cutting the ribbon...

...To the amusement of a crowd... Mrs Obama was reminded by museum president...that she and the president had their first date in a museum.

'Thank you for reminding me,' Mrs. Obama said.

'You know, after 20-some-odd years of knowing a guy, you forget that your first date was at a museum. But it was, and it was obviously wonderful; it worked.'

She added: 'The president and I want to ensure that all children have access to great works of art.'

... she reminded the audience...her husband...had included...$50 million for the National Endowment for the Arts in his economic stimulus package...

Three of the invited children got hugs from the first lady ....She told them: 'This is your place, too.'

A...the first lady changed into evening clothes and headed to American Ballet Theatre's spring gala at the Metropolitan Opera House, a highlight of the city's social calendar.

The crowd rose in enthusiastic applause - one man shouted, 'Brava!' - as Mrs Obama, dressed in a black Alaia dress and Thakoon jacket, was introduced by Caroline Kennedy...

'My husband and I believe strongly that arts education is essential...' the first lady said, before introducing a multiracial cast of ballet students from ABT's Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis School.

Oh they’re just so CUTE!

Can’t you just eat ‘em up?

Not like those EVIL Bush people.

I bet a lot of their ‘homies’ can relate to a first date in the museum of art...

No, no, no—their first date was at a museum in Chicago, not in NY. Journalists!

It will take 20 years to recover from her spending spree.

They dont want another Reagan to come in and fix it in two years. They want permanence.

Obama ugly time ....

I always thought they bumped into each other in a Barnes & Noble at the check out line...each purchasing a copy of Saul Alinsky.

HUH???"'You know, after 20-some-odd years of knowing a guy, you forget that your first date was at a museum. But it was, and it was obviously wonderful; it worked.'"

What worked? what does she mean by that statement?

Here she looks as if she's been dipped in ashes.
That collar should have been turned upwards.
She also should have worn a cape to conceal her weapons. ABT is a gun free zone.

According to the Chicago Sun-Times, Barack and Michelle Obama’s first date included a trip to the Art Institute of Chicago.

They certainly had a busy day!

All hail the boob belt!! Actually, isn’t that just a different angle of the elevator pic from the Euro tour?

As a side note, my hubby and my first date was at the North Carolina Museum of Art...they had an Egyptian Exhibit. I was more than happy having nothing in common with these people. *sigh* now I’m gonna have to buy myself a boob belt! /sarc

i guess you are right that it’s the same pic, but she IS fixated with that belt, which does NOTHING for her! if you showed up somewhere with it, people would laugh their heads off at you and you know it! everyone is laughing at Michelle too, but can’t let her see.

This is the most fawning piece of claptrap I have ever read in my life. Pure Saccharine.

I appreciate the arts as much as the next person, but you know what?
I want our kids to play dodge ball, and go fishing.;
I want them to run lemonade stands and shoot off firecrackers.

FUBO!

you know...it makes me wonder...why did they add the boob belt to this article? The newspaper did it...do they laugh at it as well? There are plenty of other pictures of “the couple” that they could have pulled, but they chose the close up of boob belt.

Curious...

You know, after 20-some-odd years of knowing a guy, you forget that your first date was at a museum.

How can she forget her first date with a half white guy. What, no Wagyu and lobster tails at the museum cafe? My wife and I remember our first date and the details and celebrate its anniversary each year for more than 20 years now. But I guess we're not celebutantes, with massively important schedules.

HIS stimulus package with OUR money!

She and her husband have no idea what our children need. They are spending like drunken sailors only to saddle these same children with overwhelming debt. How about giving us OUR money back to determine how best to spend it for OUR children (like for clothes and food). In the "greatest economic downturn since the great depression" surely we can find a better way to spend money than to fly this woman back and forth to NY for photo ops in front of museums and Hollywood elites!

These two are the most self centered people on the face of the planet!

It was nice of the folks to put the platform for the kids to stand on so the First Lady wouldn't appear so huge. Now if they could just find her a dress that wasn't two sizes too small. ;-)

Museums keep tabs on exactly where people have their first dates? Or was this a publicity stunt and pre-arranged bit of patter?

And just how will that $50 million stimulate the economy? What new jobs will it be used to create? Oh, it's another welfare payment for educated liberals.

Too bad the art world has a political litmus test.

It was an artist named Shepherd Fairey who helped elect this fraud.

I got the dreaded red x so I looked up Shepard Fairey. Look what I found:

Made my day. Obama and the artist must be thrilled Obama's image is being used to protest the horror of abortion.
