I MUST HAVE MISSED IT...

Posted on 05/21/2009 3:24:23 AM PDT by wny

Gasoline bottomed out at $1.75. Now it's $2.50. That's a 43% increase in a few months. Where's the howls of outrage from the MSMwhores? Where's the daily update on the previous days increase and the nationwide average? Where are the sob stories about people having to do without (fill in the blank) due to paying so much more for gas?

And the economic problems have finally been solved despite the fact the unemployment is headed towards double-digits

“That’s a 43% increase in a few months”

It’s worse than that. It’s went up that much in a matter of about three weeks.

I agree. There’s some more monkey business going on with gas prices.

It only oppressed the poor under a Republican.

Under a Democrat, it miraculously encourages the use of public transport, reduces dependence upon foreign oil, and reduces carbon and pollutants, thereby saving our coastal cities from inundation due to anthropogenic global warming.

Price has gone from a low of $1.43 to $2.20 presently, here.

When this happened under GWB, everyone was convinced he and/or Dick Cheney had engineered these price increases to pay off their oil buddies. Of course, when oil prices declined from $4 to under $2, these same critics were silent.

The point is that everyone filters this information through their own preconceptions. The left and its supporters in MSM detested GWB, so looked for every opportunity to bash him, even for events (world oil prices) well beyond his control. Obama can do little wrong (although that premise is now being challenged by those nervous that he is becoming GWB II in the war on terrorism), so this spike in oil prices isn’t evoking the same nonsensical vitriol it did just 2 years ago.

We may have to nationalize the oil companies.

Agreed. The hypocrisy of liberals is just staggering to any thinking person, but to the braindead sheeple around this country, it just goes unnoticed.

Gas goes up every summer. It has for a number of years. The boutique fuels that cities demand kick in. Speculators try to make a buck also.

It wasn’t long ago that I heard that they were stockpiling crude and refined gasoline on idling ships due to the sharp drop off in demand.

I’m not outraged at the price of gas, even though it has gone up 57% since early March. $1.39 to $2.19. What will really suck is when gasoline can not be purchased at any price. I’d never have imagined such a scenario could ever happen, but I never imagined we would elect someone as obtuse as Barack Hussein Obama as president of the USA either.

Lowest I saw was $1.27. I was aiming for $0.99 and was fixing to take photographs.

“Where’s the howls of outrage from the MSMwhores?”

Just the opposite. The local news here in southeast VA is making it a point to say that gas prices are lower than this time a year ago.

It started going up when Obama announced his energy policy.

No new oil exploration = less oil.

The price will probably be $3.00-$3.50 by mid-summer.

God help us if it gets up to the high price levels of last year.

Remember what Obambi said last year - Americans really don’t mind paying $4.00/gal for gas they just don’t like that it went up so fast!

I read last month that there was a surplus of crude oil. The rise in price is probably at the refinery and the hidden hands noticed that nobody really screamed at the last run up. Welcome to the brave new world.

Next year, that will be the headline about inflation.

The problem is that most (not all) drivers have now been trained (conditioned). Remember a few short months ago when prices dropped from $4+ down to the $2 barrier? Remember thinking, "Wow! I didn't think I'd ever see this again!, and how appreciative you may have felt to be able to pay $2 a gallon again? That's because based on your recent experience, $2 a gallon was no longer expensive. It was cheap compared to the $4+ a gallon you had been paying a short time earlier.

At that point you became conditioned to seeing $2 a gallon prices as cheap, so when prices continued to drop down to $1.75....$1.65....you may have felt that you were really getting a bargain. Then prices start jumping quickly to $2.....$2.10.....$2.25......yeah, but you remember last summer when you were paying $4+, so it's still cheap, right? You've become a frog in a pot and the water is slowly heating up again, but it's not as boiling hot as it was last summer, so you're still comfortable....you're still ahead of the game from where prices were last summer......you've been conditioned........JMO

Usually by this amount of increase we are muting the sound on the TV because of the words: "Pain at The Pump" used as lead-ins for news coverage.

As long as half of the American people are still under the hypnotic spell of their cult leader, everything is just rosy and good in 0bama-Land.

The media phrase "pain at the pump" is absurdly over-used and as aggravating as "high-powered-rifle".

As an aside, it's not uncommon for gas prices to increase at the kick off of the summertime travel season.

President Obama’s friend Warren Buffett needs to recoup some of the $1billion+ he lost speculating on oil futures in 2008.

They also have to make different blends for different portions of the country because of local standards.
