I was looking at an image of New Zealand from space, and I noticed a bright blue lake on the South Island. I was pretty sure why it was blue (suspended glacial flour, like Lake Louise in Banff), but I checked to make sure. Turns out, as are many bright blue scenic mountain lakes around the world, this is a scenic spot. If I ever take a trip to New Zealand, I'm pretty sure I'd run out of time before I ran out of places to see!
So here's a variety of views of that lake, New Zealand's Lake Pukaki.

Quick; without looking at the page source, what's the name of the prominent mountain in these images? Hint: what famous explorer is strongly associated with New Zealand?

What you say is true, mate. I have lived here for 15 years now traveled extensively on both islands and I haven’t even begun to see New Zealand. I could (shall) spend my entire life here, seeing new things.

We vacationed in NZ South Island a few years ago. Drove by this lake on the way to Mt. Cook.
Utterly breathtaking, as is the whole country.
If I ever emigrate from the US, there’s only one place I’d go to!

True story: My mother was very ill and hospitalized after I was born. Her family was trying to win custody of me and my siblings, and my Dad told me he had tickets to New Zealand in his pocket. Ended up he won in court and didn’t need ‘em. How different my life could have turned out to be...
