THE BRIEFING ROOM

THE WHITE HOUSE Office of the Press Secretary

___________________________________________________________ For Immediate Release June 1, 2009

LESBIAN, GAY, BISEXUAL, AND TRANSGENDER PRIDE MONTH, 2009 - - - - - - - BY THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA A PROCLAMATION

Forty years ago, patrons and supporters of the Stonewall Inn in New York City resisted police harassment that had become all too common for members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) community. Out of this resistance, the LGBT rights movement in America was born. During LGBT Pride Month, we commemorate the events of June 1969 and commit to achieving equal justice under law for LGBT Americans.

LGBT Americans have made, and continue to make, great and lasting contributions that continue to strengthen the fabric of American society. There are many well-respected LGBT leaders in all professional fields, including the arts and business communities. LGBT Americans also mobilized the Nation to respond to the domestic HIV/AIDS epidemic and have played a vital role in broadening this country's response to the HIV pandemic.

Due in no small part to the determination and dedication of the LGBT rights movement, more LGBT Americans are living their lives openly today than ever before. I am proud to be the first President to appoint openly LGBT candidates to Senate-confirmed positions in the first 100 days of an Administration. These individuals embody the best qualities we seek in public servants, and across my Administration -- in both the White House and the Federal agencies -- openly LGBT employees are doing their jobs with distinction and professionalism.

The LGBT rights movement has achieved great progress, but there is more work to be done. LGBT youth should feel safe to learn without the fear of harassment, and LGBT families and seniors should be allowed to live their lives with dignity and respect.

My Administration has partnered with the LGBT community to advance a wide range of initiatives. At the international level, I have joined efforts at the United Nations to decriminalize homosexuality around the world. Here at home, I continue to support measures to bring the full spectrum of equal rights to LGBT Americans. These measures include enhancing hate crimes laws, supporting civil unions and Federal rights for LGBT couples, outlawing discrimination in the workplace, ensuring adoption rights, and ending the existing "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy in a way that strengthens our Armed Forces and our national security. We must also commit ourselves to fighting the HIV/AIDS epidemic by both reducing the number of HIV infections and providing care and support services to people living with HIV/AIDS across the United States.

These issues affect not only the LGBT community, but also our entire Nation. As long as the promise of equality for all remains unfulfilled, all Americans are affected. If we can work together to advance the principles upon which our Nation was founded, every American will benefit. During LGBT Pride Month, I call upon the LGBT community, the Congress, and the American people to work together to promote equal rights for all, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, BARACK OBAMA, President of the United States of America, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and laws of the United States, do hereby proclaim June 2009 as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Pride Month. I call upon the people of the United States to turn back discrimination and prejudice everywhere it exists.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand this first day of June, in the year of our Lord two thousand nine, and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and thirty-third.

BARACK OBAMA

Thanks for the heads up but God isn’t “wispering in my ear,” I just stated reality i.e. the truth; this proclamation is nothing less than government sanctioned wickedness. And God will judge us as a nation because of it.

They used to do this crap when I was in college.. They would declare that anyone wearing jeans or a white shirt as showing support for gays.. but of course they would announce it at like 9am, when the paper would come out and by then, most students would already be on campus.

I had an inside with the printer, so I was prepared with khakis and a black shirt.

My link at post 40 shows Stonewall, National Action Network, Hotlap dance and Voter March all financially connected. Hotlap Dance (Lou Posner) info is towards the end of the thread.

I’ll take the White House declaration as a thank you to his backers.

True, true!

Someone just posted that we are “all on the same list a Dick Cheney” no matter how “pious” we are. I don’t know what list he was talking about.

Mr. Cheney, supporting Federalism (I am a Federalist), went on to say that anyone should have the freedom to enter into ANY kind of relationship or union they wish. The subject was sodomite “marriage.” So it is OK with Mr. Cheney if all 50 states decide to allow sodomite “marriage.”

My point in my article was that we have a host of “conservatives” in economics and military matters who don’t understand that God sees, expects, and judges on the entire Book of standards for man. This ROARS from the pages of Scripture; and God doesn’t protect Free Enterprise just for the sake of Free Enterprise. Nor will he protect or blesss a nation just because it practices “Free Enterprise.”

I firmly believe in Free Enterprise. But I believe that conservatives must believe much more than that if they want God’s mercies and blessings on our beloved Nation. God believes in much more than that!

We certainly have Free Enterprise in Detroit and on Wall Street now, don’t we! —sarc.

Why is the nation slipping into fascist principles of managing industry and the economy? (Rhetorical question - not aimed at you, but at those who don’t see God in this picture.) The smartest and most capable thinkers in economics don’t seem to be able to find either a reason this is happening or how to reverse it before it destroys our Free Enterprise system entirely.

I believe that God is already withdrawing His Hand of protection — No, not totally withdrawn, but receding. The answer is a spiritual Revival; economics is secondary now in the rescue of the country.

If the conservative intelligencia will keep working on the economics, they should. But ultimately they will fail unless the nation — large segments of the American people “Turn their eyes upon Jesus.”

Economics doesn’t provide a Saviour; God has provided the Saviour. Too many conservatives hope for us to just ignore this.

I’m just glad to see him finally breaking away from his recent obsession with monor trivialities like the failing economy, the wars in the Middle East and N. Korea having the bomb; and getting around to handling the serious business “the people” elected him to take care of.

Nope. THAT press release is scheduled to be pre-empted by some additional condemnation of the killing of that 3rd term abortion doctor in Kansas.

Don't get me wrong, that murder SHOULD be condemned, but I found it bizarre that the president himself would make a "statement" about a local murder in Kansas but choose to remain silent about the murder of a military recruiter.

Well, our dear leader/ruler was praised for being such an outstanding campaigner, but he has no experience in running anything so much as a popsicle stand. So he is doing what he knows how to do, campaign. We will have 3 1/2 years or just campaigning, not governing or actually paying any attention to the real problems this country is facing. Thanks state controlled media, we now have a full time circus act while the lions are loose and hungry.

Forty years ago, patrons and supporters of the Stonewall Inn in New York City resisted police harassment that had become all too common for members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) community.

It was a bar that was operating in violation of the established liquor laws. It led to a pink riot that lasted for days.

LGBT Americans also mobilized the Nation to respond to the domestic HIV/AIDS epidemic

They blamed Reagan for "doing nothing". 3 decades later, there still is no cure. But they claimed it was Reagan's fault.

Closing bathhouses and other places where infected gay men went to engage in anonymous public sex would've done more to stem the spread of the disease.

Treating it last past STD infections (asking for the names and addresses and contact info of persons you'd been sexual with in recent history) might also have helped early detection.

But they politicized it. Can't ask if someone is sick. Let alone help get word out to others they may have infected.

These measures include... ensuring adoption rights...

When does the child get to consent to being raised in an alternative lifestyle home? Why does the child's right to a father AND a mother get trumped by two sodomites?

Honestly, what are you supposed to do for a PRIDE MONTH?

Satyrical orgy.

Be sure to practice safe sodomy.

Well you may scoff but Roy Cohen at least did his part to combat the encroaching Communist alliance within our government. Oh wait, they called him a dirty f** and tried to out him during the McCarthy hearings (he was on McCarthy's side). It isn't who you are, it is whether you stand WITH the Party or against it. The Left is positively antiAmerican.

Insane! Trying to make this Stonewall thing sound like
one of Paul Revere’s rides among the towns of the soon-
to-be-free commonwealth of Massachusetts!

if Obama hadn’t told us he is Christian, it would be very difficult to believe

It's impossible to believe, regardless of how many times he claims it to be true.
