Family Outraged After Officer Shoots Their Dog (5 lb Chihuahua)

CINCINNATI, OH -- A Blue Ash family is outraged after returning home to find their dog had been shot and killed by a police officer.

The dog was a Chihuahua-mix named “Jack” that Scott and Sharon Bullock had given to their 12-year-old son for his birthday a few years ago.

When the Bullocks returned home from a family member's funeral on Friday, they found blood and three bullets on their front porch – along with a note to call the Blue Ash Police Department about their dog.

The Bullocks were shocked to learn that Jack had gotten out of the backyard and two officers who tried to catch him, ended up shooting and killing him right on the family's front porch.

"He was cornered on the porch and scared," said Sharon Bullock. "The officer bent down bare-handed to pick up Jack, and Jack bit him."

"My five-year-old cried himself to sleep the night before last, wanting his dog," said Sharon Bullock.

"He ‘barks’ for him" added Scott Bullock. "He'd ‘bark’ and Jack would always come to him, so he's outside going ‘Bark bark bark,’ hoping he's gonna come back. It's heartbreaking."

The Bullocks told their five-year-old and three-year-old sons that Jack ran away.

The Bullocks admit they were at fault for leaving their dog outside, and are sorry the officer was bitten, but they say their dog was not a vicious animal and had never bitten anyone before.

They're wondering why the officers didn't call the SPCA to catch the dog.

"They didn't make that phone call other than to come scoop the dog off the porch after they shot him," said Scott Bullock. "Two grown men that can't gather up a five-pound dog – and they're trained police officers – sounds ridiculous to me."

That officer later explained to the family that he was following procedure.

The Blue Ash Police Department has not returned 9News’ calls for comment on this incident.

The family says there were two officers involved. One was bitten. The other officer tased, then shot the dog three times.

How do spent bullets wind up sitting on a porch?

>>They were at fault for leaving him (a 5 pound dog) on the front porch?<<

He was left in the backyard. Look here...

“The Bullocks were shocked to learn that Jack had gotten out of the backyard”
As a small dog owner, I will tell you that small dogs are in danger from many things. A five pound dog left in a backyard can slip under fences, be taken out by a larger dog that hops the fence or even wildlife. We were alerted by the breeder to NEVER leave a dog this small unattended. Many a small breed owner has found their pup maimed or murdered after leaving them out unattended.

I agree that the cop was totally wrong, but the owners should have kept the pup in the house.

Oh yes, our modern society is full of people who go ballistic at the sight of any dog.On one hand it is becoming illegal to tie your dog with a collar and chain but also illegal to allow him to run loose!

The police and government are also constantly pushing more weak justifications for intruding and invading your home or property;a dog on his front porch would normally defend his home. These officers are so used to a cowed populace that they react poorly to anyone standing firm.

Sue the hell out of the cowardly officer and toss him out of the force.

I'd be sure I shamed him publicly

You'd come to regret that. One night, on your way home from work, a cop would pull you over and direct you to proceed to a nearby darkened parking lot. Two more cop cruisers would then pull in around your car, blocking you in, and screening you from both the view of passing traffic and of any nearby survellance cameras. They would then teach you what happens to loudmouths who don't know when to shut up.

But don't take my word for it. Talk to an attorney. He or she will tell you what a mistake it is to cross the Blue Gang.

If this moron is afraid of a 5lb dog, what the hell would he do with a real armed criminal? Call in the national guard?!

A few years back a new local cop maced my Jack Russell. The police chief made him come back and apologize to both of us.

Chis might be mean little bastids but good lord, a simple pair of thick work gloves is enough to control even the meanest...they simply don’t have a lot of strength and can be manhandled as needed for safety.

These officers are rank cowards!

interstate revenue enhancement

I like that. That is the only function these authoritarian meatheads serves in our society anymore. Anything beyond that and they're completely out of their depth.

Poor little kid... what a horrible story. Cops suck.

Why only three bullets? Why not empty the whole damn gun?

The family found 3 bullets on the porch. Maybe he did empty the gun and the rest were in the little dog...

Probably meant shells, or the bullets just went thru and lodged in something.

Can't - sovereign immunity.

Municipalities are sued, and lose all the time. That is why they have to purchase liability insurance.

There were two cops in on this and neither had the brains nor the ethics to see how wrong this was. They were ‘following procedures’. This is chilling.

Yep, since this is a community police officer(s) ===the community will be heard from on this, I’m sure. I know if I lived there, I’d be at the front desk pounding my fist on the counter asking what the heck is going on!
