MAC Quarterbacks in 2009

Much has been made this off season about the MAC coaching carousel, with more than a third of MAC teams sporting a new coach there was plenty to talk about on the sidelines. I have not yet seen anyone talk about the on the field changes in leadership (or potential leadership) with several Quarterbacks graduating, leaving for the draft and at least one Quarterback controversy brewing in Ohio I thought it might be nice to catch up around the conference:

Akron: (Chris Jacquemain)

The Zips are in a good place at QB; not only do they have a two year starter returning they also have someone who has shown good year over year improvement. Its quite reasonable to assume that if the running game does not fall off too much Jacquemain can hit 3,000 yards and perhaps upwards of 25 touchdowns.

Jacquemain lost his running back (and third favorite receiver) but he does return his two biggest targets.

Unfortunatly not in bowl games... 0-5 really hurt last year.

I really thought CMU and NIU, perhaps WMU were going to come through..

Akron has a new stadium on campus.
As an alum, I’m hoping this spells good things for their future.

Wow what happened to the Rubber Bowl?
I know it was old and tired.
What does the new one look like?

Yep. The conference took it on the chin last year, but they do come up with a few wins now and then.

The CMU and WMU quarterbacks were playing through injuries last year.

Opening this year. A 30,000 seat stadium on campus. Here’s a link: http://www.gozips.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=10800&ATCLID=3667207

The Rubber Bowl was old and tired, and just falling apart. Having a nice stadium on campus should help with attendance. Dorm dwellers can easily walk to games now.

“Come talk to me when three of the four top vote getters in the Heisman are quarterbacks from your conference.(Big XII - Bradford, McCoy, Harrell - 2008)”

That’s just silly.
Comparing the Big 12 to a mid-major conference? Do you beat up little kids and take their lunch money too?

great looking facility
did not know about it at all
glad to see the town is getting a nice stadium
I’m guessing Rubber Bowl was too far gone to rehab.

From what zips fans told me it was not just the condition but location. On-Campus will be a huge boon for attendance..

“Why did they call it the Rubber Bowl?”

Akron was the “Rubber Capital” back when America had industry. The rubber companies helped with construction. The University of Akron is a leader in polymer research due to rubber company influence.

Sadly, the union, URW, killed the rubber shops here, and most moved to the sunbelt, or went under. I remember the smell of the rubber shops as a kid, (very unpleasant), but people had jobs. The air is fresh now, and people are broke.

Thanks - I assumed it had something to do with the industry but on a college campus, you just never know why anything happens! lol
