Buck Rogers Begins: New production for the web?
Posted on 06/22/2009 3:42:49 PM PDT by GeronL
The same people who have been producing the fan series Star Trek: Phase II have actually secured the rights to produce a Buck Rogers web series, meaning it can be for-profit.
This could be interesting!

They said they want to the new series to be true to the old and true to the originaln intent. Gil Gerard and a member of the trust that owns the rights are onboard with the project.

Mel Blanc was the voice of ‘Tweekie’ on the Gil Gerard Buck Rogers effort.
and while we are at it, bring back Buster Crabbe.

They’re supposed to be doing Wild Wild West too. I must confess I’ve never bothered to watch their stuff, maybe I’ll get around to it.

The volunteer stuff is one or two episodes per year. If the Buck Rogers and WWW start making money, they might make more ST Phase II episodes.
Kitumba, just wrapped, sounds like a doozy. It’ll be out sometime in 2010 I think.

I can remember rushing home from school in the late 1930s to catch the daily 15 minutes of BUCK ROGERS IN THE 25TH CENTURY on the radio. I'll be interested in this new version.

I wish somebody had done a live action version of the Original Buck Rogers.
That is, Rogers was a flier for the US Army Air Corps who was investigating an abandoned mine when he was exposed to a gas that put him in to a state of suspended animation. He wakes up in the 25th Century, to see an airship, of “The Warlords of Han” chasing after a couple with anti-gravity belts. He is fired on by a death beam from the airship, and rescued by the couple.
These “Evil Warlords” and “Mongol hordes” had pretty much conquered the world, and the people in North America, with their gravity belt invention, were finally starting to turn back the invaders.
The villains were desperate to obtain the gravity belt technology, and the villain Killer Kane was there to act as a foil to Buck.

Several years ago I had read that Larry Niven was interested in doing a sequel to this book that tied it in with Lucifer’s Hammer.
