Bad news for all those tea drinking vegans on the lower east side.
Late last week, Teany Cafe an NYC vegan eatery co-founded by Moby was destroyed in a fire. According to reports, an electrical fire ignited the vegan restaurant and gutted the building on Rivington Street.
Moby opened the joint in 2002 with this his then girlfriend Kelly Tisdale, and later turned it over to Tisdale exclusively.
On his blog, Moby wrote:
Apparently Kelly is working hard to repair it and get it re-opened. So theres a good chance that Teany will re-open at some point in the next month or two.
Woo! Were happy to hear that the veggie restaurant will once again stand tall. Oh wait
I mean stand Teany.
If they don’t serve cooked flesh, I won’t go there.
Resteraunt fires = arson for insurance money. Lock him up.
What is a “Moby”?
Betcha they were hoping some meat eating firemen and policeman would come to their rescue.
See my tagline.

I was at this place. Once, about six years ago. Overpriced “Asian/Fusion/Vegen” crap that I could get from Whole Foods considerably cheaper.
LOL, wondered the same thing. He must be mighty popular to be known by one name in NYC.
I'm glad the fusion craze seems to have died out. Some things were simply not meant to be combined.
Moby seems like a strange guy, but his music's not bad.

I swear they are cloning these two. They look like so many liberals that I have encountered personally or seen on TV at protests for every liberal cause.
A former colleague, who was Jewish btw, called arson “Jewish Lightning.”
Moby is a dick... seriously
Mmmhmm, I agree. I have nothing against vegan food (some places can actually be pretty good - without being able to rely on meat, they need to get fresher/better produce), but this place is/was garbage.
Not sure about the arson thing, though - I haven’t been in the neighborhood for a year or so, but I remember this place always being pretty busy
“Moby, you can get stomped by Obie!”
