Necessity compelled Neanderthals to wear tailored clothing and dry hunks of big game meat, according to a new study on the survival needs of these now-extinct prehistoric humans.
>
Additional new research by Sorensen determined these sophisticated, rough-and-ready humans probably started to go extinct around 35,000 years ago due to diseases carried by modern humans, with whom they coexisted and may have mated with at the time.

I see several holes in these theories. The first being that most recently, DNA sequenced from a Neanderthal shows that, while close, interbreeding with Homo Sapiens likely did not take place for the last 100,000 years of the Neanderthal existence.
Another theory is that Neanderthal were adapted more for cold weather, Homo Sapiens for hot weather. A sinus protrusion has been found in the sinus cavity of the Neanderthal which would have slowed and warmed air as it was inhaled. But in warm weather, it would have resulted in perpetual sinus infection.
The metabolisms of the two creatures would have been considerably different as well.

Additional new research by Sorensen determined these sophisticated, rough-and-ready humans probably started to go extinct around 35,000 years ago due to diseases carried by modern humans, with whom they coexisted and may have mated with at the time. And thus the argument that Neanderthals actually invented a primitive form of time travel was advanced....

They mean biologically modern humans, not modern humans in a temporal 21st century sense.
Biologically modern humans have existed for around 100,000 years. If Neanderthals went extinct 35,000 or so years ago, that is a long time for both Neanderthals and (anatomically) modern humans to coexist.

Note to self: Don’t make jerky out of mammoth meat, could cause extiction of human race.

I thought they used bronze cans back then. It doesn't matter (but I think you're right) The Neanderthals died because they foolishly canned their jerky, when can openers themselves wouldn't be invented for several more millennia.

Thanks decimon for indulging me by hunting down this article and posting it. :') Thanks for the ping. And thanks also, a fool in paradise, for the ping.
To all -- please ping me to other topics which are appropriate for the GGG list.
"Oh, no, not this again, 'Civ." "Hey, the article mentions teethmarks."
The Neandertal Enigma by James Shreeve in local libraries Frayer's own reading of the record reveals a number of overlooked traits that clearly and specifically link the Neandertals to the Cro-Magnons. One such trait is the shape of the opening of the nerve canal in the lower jaw, a spot where dentists often give a pain-blocking injection. In many Neandertal, the upper portion of the opening is covered by a broad bony ridge, a curious feature also carried by a significant number of Cro-Magnons. But none of the alleged 'ancestors of us all' fossils from Africa have it, and it is extremely rare in modern people outside Europe." [pp 126-127]
