Pitt County launched an internal investigation after a deputy shot and killed a dog while looking into the mobile home park shooting near Farmville.
Chief James Tripp says deputy Jay Madigan was asking neighbors about the shooting when four dogs started fighting.
Tripp says three of the dogs were attacking the fourth.
The deputy couldnt stop them so he shot and killed one of the aggressive dogs, which was a pit bull.
The two other attacking dogs scattered with the carcass of their victim, which also died.
The pit bull was the only dog on a chain.
Tripp says the pit bulls owner filed a complaint.
No actions been taken against Madigan pending the outcome of the investigation.

Good photo. There’s no pit bull like a dead pit bull.
Good shoot.
Shooting the only dog that was on a chain seems a little odd, but I wasn’t there.
WTF? Do they just train on dog targets at the Police ranges now?
If they aren’t tied down, they move around too much to hit
Hooray, a cop killed a dog for no good reason! WOOT!
