Finally a Time Change for "24" by Ednamode
24 is changing its setting in more than one way for season 8. Not only will the show be set in New York City, the season will be starting at a vastly different time of day: 4:00PM.
In recent years, the biggest complain amongst many of the die-hard fans, was that the show's Power's That Be had taken the time of day for granted, especially on a show where a ticking clock is a major character. Five of the past six seasons started between 6:00AM and 8:00AM, giving each season an almost identical mood and structure.
All of the morning seasons (seasons 2 and 4-7) started with villain A threatening the US with a WMD. Eventually, the villain is killed off and the real mastermind (or a giant conspiracy involving several masterminds) is revealed. The middle of the night episodes almost exclusively dealt with unravelling a conspiracy with one last threat looming for the final hours.
Even season 5, the show's Emmy winning and most popular season was guilty of being structured almost identically to season 2. A WMD threat is resolved before midnight. In the middle of the night, Jack and company chase after a recording that implicates a powerful White Guy. The recording is destroyed, but the villain is tricked into confessing his guilt in the final episode.
Now let's look at the two seasons that didn't start in the morning. Season 1, which started and ended at midnight is the only season to split its night episodes in half (6 at the start, 5 at the end). Meanwhile, with characters having lost an entire night's sleep, the characters often dozed off, including Jack Bauer himself in episode 9.
In season 3, which started at 1:00PM, the same virus threat remained throughout the day. There was no massive conspiracy: just one man (Stephen Saunders) out for revenge on the US government. The last 10 episodes of season 3 (the virus being released) would be the first 10 episodes in any other season. Perhaps this is why the second half of season 3 is regarded by many fans to be the best second half to any season.
With the change in time and location, fans can expect a new look 24 for season 8.
Now if they just get rid of Garfy’s character...
What’s 24??
That show is still on?
They did. Garofalo is gone.
Maybe her character will be revealed to be an anti-American mole working together with terrorists and is offed in the sweeps week episode.
People would tune in to see that (and Garfy herself would still be live and working in Hollyweird).
Well it has at least one more season. I think the last 2 seasons were really stale and a lot of it had to do with the season starting at the same time of day.
The real question everyone is asking: Will Kim be chased by a wild animal?
She’s not even going to be in this season. She was a one season character. Just like so many other recent additions to the cast (Ricky Shroeder, Regina King, Marisol Nichols, and unfortunately Jean Smart).
I don’t care if it starts at lunch time, it’s way, way too political correct for me.
I have a good idea for the writers.
Make Barfalo the 1st victim of government run healthcare.
Well they are in NYC. Maybe a lion will escape from the Central Park Zoo.
Haha, good one.
I want her to be an anti-American traitor who’s dies a horrible ugly death over an extended period of time.
You know, a role where she is just being herself.
They either have to try for a slight return towards some plausibility, or just go whole hog and make Jack a vampire fighting magic aliens.
But, I’m guessing that they will probably still have those occasional messages about “dealing with the serious and real problems of climate change”.
Why bother watching? Here, I’ll give you the spoilers:
(1) The Evil White Guy was behind it all.
(2) The Misunderstood Imam was really a good guy.
Any questions?
I have a quarter that says the bad guy is an old white guy.
Any takers?
The LA setting was rediculous. They had Bauer go out to a city west of downtown LA and back in about a half hour. Getting around Washington, D.C quickly is also a pipe dream. In NYC you could hop a #2/3 subway and get quite a ways in under 20 minutes.
We should sue ‘24’ for torturing the fans. Having to look at Garfy’s ugly mug, week after week, was just too much!! It was painful, unusual, and cruel for a TV show to inflict such punishment upon its viewers.
