Michael Jackson's Creepy Art Collection

Around the corner from our office are a couple of antique stores that sell what I can only describe as the world's worst kitsch. A specialty is giant garden statuary of prepubescent children doing idyllic things that no kid has done since 1897, like playing leap-frog or fishin' with a branch. I figured the stores, which are always packed to the rafters, were some kind of money-laundering front. Now I know better. They were supplying Michael Jackson.

If you have a few minutes, go check out the auction catalogs for Jackson's Neverland Ranch. The King of Pop, in desperate need of cash, is selling off 2,000 of his possessions. What's up for sale is an awesomely horrible glimpse into the world of the man-child who blew his money on jaw droppingly bizarro figurines like this, which even Abe Lincoln seems disturbed by. More examples after the jump.

Speaking of that kind of thing...I saw a thing on the news last night which showed a huge moving van outside his door. When I saw that I said to myself..."geeze,the guy's barely cold and they've got the moving vans. What's up with *that*?"

This piece just might be a partial...or complete...explanation.Hiding the evidence from families of kids that might want to sue his estate.

most of those are dumb but harmless enough. the one of the father and son with a ball is nice, i don’t see how it qualifies as “creepy”. i have done that with my kids. playing with a particular toy, kid wants it, mom holds it for ransom until given a kiss on the cheek. nothing creepy there imo.

LOL, well context matters, I guess.

Substitute Michael jackson for you, and Macauley Culkin for your kids, and the creepiness leaps right out at you.

Actually I like the one of “Honest Abe.”
If accurate we can add pedophile to the list of reasons to dislike the scoundrel.

Wow, this is a real stretch.
I have my doubts about the man’s sexuality, but this stuff looks like any grandma could have them.

true but the figurine in the picture was being classified as creepy. i submit that the figurine was quite a nice depiction of a father and son having a good time. nothing creepy about it imo. yes if it was mj and some child he was not related to it would be a bit strange, but if he did this with his own kids and perhaps nieces and nephews it would be perfectly normal and acceptable.

Yeah?
If there were nothing but boys in the picture, I would be creeped out.

IMHO the pictures represent carefree freedom as only children know and feel. With Jackson in the picture, it appears that he wanted that same kind of feeling but couldn’t since he’s older. He makes me think of Tom Sawyer.

My understanding is the place he died at is owned by the Nation of Islam and Jackson was renting it on a month to month basis.

This one is part of MJ's collection (valued at $1,000 - $2,000) in the Julien's Auctions Neverland sale catalogue:

They don’t have a clear picture of it, but I love the triptych of him being crowned Holy Roman Emperor. The portrait of him as a 17th/18th century monarch is nice, too. Such a humble man, never once let his fame get to his head.

I suppose that could be the explanation but somehow this moving van stuff doesn't pass the smell test for me.This piece about the weird,NAMBLA-type "art",OTOH,constitutes a very plausible explanation,IMO.

I heard a report that "The King of Pop" title was a contractual obligation he placed on MTV to play his Thriller video.

True? Comments? Bueller?

Oh I'm sure his enablers are frantically removing truckloads of kiddie porn and other illegal material.

The statues remind me of a Tom Sawyer. In real life Jackson reminds me of a runaway from the Barney Frank pedophile farm.
