You are correct. My kids and I met Steve McNair and they got his autograph when the Oilers were in training camp in San Antonio. We were there to get Eddie George’s autograph — he stood and talked to my son when he found out we were originally from Ohio.

Oilers were a great bunch of guys to the kids that showed up for their camp. McNair was a class act and shame this had to happen.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Nashville fire officials and Titans' sources have confirmed that former Titans QB Steve McNair, 36, has been shot to death at a condominium in downtown Nashville.

The circumstances of the shooting were unclear. Someone called police at about 1:30 p.m. Saturday, saying someone had been shot at a condo located at Second Avenue South and Lea Avenue.

McNair was shot in the head.

Police spokesman Don Aaron said a woman, who was not McNair's wife Mechelle, was also found dead with McNair. He said police tentatively have identified the woman but did not release her name.

Mechelle McNair said she had not heard from her husband in a couple of days. She was in the couple's home Saturday on Bear Road in Green Hills.

Aaron ruled out the possibility of a murder-suicide. He also said that the time of the deaths is uncertain and that they may not have occurred Saturday.

A source told Channel 4 News that McNair was seen at about 1 a.m. Saturday at a Nashville restaurant.

"There are persons who were around the complex today, visitors, who have been taken to headquarters for questioning, just to see what they know, what they may have seen," Aaron said. "No one is in custody right now."

Two black SUVs were towed from the scene.

The owner of the building is Charles Cardwell, a well-known Metro trustee. Cardwell said the unit where McNair and the woman were found was rented to Wayne Neeley, who worked or still works at Nashville Sporting Goods as a salesman. Cardwell, who also lived in the building, said the apartment was often vacant but that McNair used it when he came into town.

Neeley had rented the apartment for about four years, said Cardwell, who also said he isn't aware of previous problems at the apartment, which is near McNair's restaurant Gridiron9.

A car registered to Steve McNair and a 20-year-old woman was stopped two days ago on Broadway.

The driver and co-owner, Sahel Kazemi, was charged with driving under the influence and refusing to take a breath test. The car was a 2007 black Cadillac Escalade.
