Well, I'm sorry to say that no good opportunity to speak materialized. I sent a copy of A Fourth of July Tea Party Speech to the Sandpoint group, but got a 'no thanks' response. The Sandpoint group had a venue and speakers. Nothing was scheduled for the Spokane area. Finally, I figured that I'd just show up at the Coeur d'Alene event - but all that turned out to be was a parade and a picnic.
Don't get me wrong it was nice day - a little hot for these parts - but a nice day anyway. The parade had its moments, though. Local Democrats had a little marching group - all with blue shirts - and they did NOT get a friendly reception.
Then we had the local "Human Rights Education Institute," a bunch of lefties with ties to the Southern Poverty Law Center (Morris Dee's outfit). Now, picture this: Lots of applause and cheering for all of the local outfits with marchers and floats as they went by on Sherman Street. But the HREI dingalings marched in a traveling 'cone of silence' - no one cheered or clapped as they went by. I gave them a hard look and shook my head. They didn't look like they were having too much fun.
The local Tea Party Patriots also marched, but there weren't many of them - maybe a couple dozen or so. So - no speech. But I did hand out eight copies of Glenn Beck's "Common Sense" and a few copies of my speech. This was disappointing in some respects. The first Tea Party gathering on April 15th had a lot going for it - lots of people and citizen speakers. That's what I had hoped to connect with here, but it never materialized.
There'll be other times, other opportunities, I suppose. I'm not done.
I also sent a copy of my speech to Rush, Glenn Beck and Laura Ingraham. No response. Ah, well. Persistence pays.
Huh? It was not very well advertised beforehand, I guess:
I had found it on a website, but could not believe the location they chose! I guess they could not compete with the crowds at Riverfront Park awaiting the fireworks.
In general, I got the impression that most folks around here - the Spokane - CDA area, that is - were more interested in having a fun Fourth. Can’t say I blame them. Things haven’t been exactly rosy around here for the last little while and I think that people just wanted to enjoy themselves.
Although that’s a little like having a picnic on your front lawn while your house burns down.
There’ll be other opportunities, though.
I was at the Spokane Tea Party on April 15th, and was impressed with the crowds. But I have never heard of Plantes Ferry Park, and did not attend yesterday.
Spokane has had a few FReeps. I remember when Gore tried to steal the election and we were out in winter (freezing) weather.
A parade?
Tea parties are now PARADES??
No wonder the left is laughing at us.
I’d have dropped in - Post Falls Area freeper here-
But I Didnt hear a thing about it!
Having said that, I think we blew up enough ordinance high above Rathdrum to do our part in scaring leftists.
:-)
Yeah. Sad, isn’t it?
Unfortunately, had to take hub to hospital yesterday, but ping me in the future when something happens again in N. Idaho. I’m also f/Post Falls. Not into the partying, parade, & fireworks (and crowds and traffic jams) at the lake BUT would love it if that many turned out for a tea party.
Very interesting! In Hillsboro, Oregon there were over 200 that marched in the 4th of July parade that were behind the combined banners of the Oregon chapter of American’s for Prosperity and the 912 Project. They were met with lots of applause and “way to goes”......
The Democrats had about a dozen people behind their banner and they also experienced the “cone of silence.” Amazing...
some thumbs down, and even some comments like, “How am I going to pay all your taxes?” Two different states BUT same response....something is a stirring out there....
There were approx. 1,000 of us in Olympia, WA for Tea Party III or perhaps IV (not quite sure) and it was no parade...it was well done and many spoke their minds, waved flags, prayed, sang and show their patriotism and their anger at the current debacle in DC - plus there was a lot of encouragement to stay involved.
Don’t lose heart - the very fact that we’re currently decentralized, is a good thing - there is no party dictating to us. Ideas like http://www.thepeoplesamendment.com were discussed as a way to limit the enormous fiscal reach of our reckless, lawless federal marxist government.
That said, we do need to organize and develop leadership.
Way to go Tea Partiers!
