No one understands me. It’s like I’m speaking some Eskimo dialect or something. Andrea Mitchell follows me all the way to Kanakanak Beach and I get a French manicure and set up this huge photo op for her, even though she spooked the salmon.

It’s an amazing day that shows how our Creator favored my beloved Alaska, gatekeeper of the continent, and makes a great shot for all the network reporters up here to milk. This progresses me away from my image as some kind of flaky “rogue diva” and back to my image as a tough huntin’ and fishin’ gal.

But Andrea makes such a darn big deal about how I’m quitting in the middle of my term.

Before he sobered up and landed CZJ, Michael Douglas briefly dated MoDo. After the hooch wore off, he dumped her and then married CZJ in what can only be categorized as the most extreme example of an UPGRADE in the history of trading up. MoDo is obviously still deeply bitter about that.

Obsession can be a cruel spectacle for those not similarly possessed, for it strips away all pretense and lays bear the mottled soul that lies beneath. In Maureen Dowd's case, what is revealed is the poisonous contempt in which she holds non-elitist Americans, which is to say, almost all of them.

How is that that a person who so clearly revels in her Olympian distance from the putrid masses is nonetheless compelled to attack and taunt them or as in this instance, their avatar?

Perhaps it is the maddening suspicion that the objects of Ms. Dowd's contempt are not only satisfied in their isolation from people like her, but quite a bit happier with their lives than she is with hers. How dare they? Don't they know that she is a world-class writer for the world's Newspaper of Record living in a stunningly chic apartment that some people would kill for, in the world's greatest city?

And even as the poison that flows forth from her keyboard finds its objects oddly immune, its progenitor, bit by bit, predictably becomes the victim.
