Serpas said police believe McNair was asleep on a sofa when Kazemi shot him in the head. She then apparently shot him twice in the chest before shooting him again in the head and then shooting herself.She pulled a "Phil Hartman" on him.

I guess one word comes to mind and that word would be “Meth”.
Doesn’t make any sense applying the normal rules of logic, but if girlfriend were strung out on Meth - that might explain the rising debts, the personal life going badly, and the flawed thinking.
