Telegraph Journal: A senior New Brunswick Roman Catholic priest is demanding the Prime Minister's Office explain what happened to the sacramental communion wafer Stephen Harper was given at Roméo LeBlanc's funeral mass.

It’s worse than scandal it is blasphemy.
If I’m not mistaken, the consecrated host plays a role in some satanic rituals.

What a dope
Maybe he’s on a no-carb diet??? Always thought “wafers” were weird anyway.....real bread is better!!!
Eh, well, it depends. In some cases, some belief systems, if you’re not in the right mindset, with your heart in the right place, you shouldn’t take communion.
Without hearing it directly from him we shouldn’t make assumptions or claim blasphemy.
Late night cabinet meeting snack maybe.
That is tantamount to flushing the you-know-what down the you-know-what.
Of course, the Canadian PM would only lose his face over this...not his head.
As I thought about this a little more it occurred to me that some of the blame here has to go to the priest. These events are always a mixed group of Catholic and non-Catholic attendees. The priest should have offered instructions for non-Catholics. I know this is fairly routine at Catholic weddings.
Religion Evangelical (Christian and Missionary Alliance)
He had no business receiving Communion in the Catholic Church (and I'm a Harper fan.)
That’s what I was thinking. Is Harper a participant in Black Masses?
Is Harper Catholic?
If Harper isn’t Catholic he should have remained seated in a pew during this part of the service.
He didn’t even receive it correctly. He just put out one hand and took it from the priest as though he was taking a business card. The priest shouldn’t have even given it to him that way.
See my post # 13.
Maybe he wanted to take it home and stick a pin in it to see if blood came out.
In view of the fact that God limited the intelligence of man, it seems unfair that he did not also limit his stupidity.-KA
Don’t know much about Harper.
If I give him the benefit of the doubt, I could say that he understands that he should not participate in the Eucharist, in which case he gets points for being reverent.
If he’s not Catholic maybe he didn’t wish to offend Catholics by falsly participating in the Eucharist?
Pocketing the sacrament was probably a bad call? What could he do at that point? Give it back to the priest. He loses points for not understanding the protocols prior to the Mass.
The guy is the PM of Canada for heaven’s sake, not the mayor of Moose Jaw!
Now, if this were Obama,...
That’s what I believe. I wouldn’t know what to do with a wafer at a Catholic affair. It WAS the priest’s responsibility to let non-Catholics know how to act.
I blame the clergy involved in this more than the Prime Minister. This issue should have been ironed out beforehand, with the clergy explaining to the Prime Minister that non-Catholics cannot receive and why. Then, the priest could offer a blessing instead as he went down the row. Instead, the priest just went down the row and handed out communion to the Prime Minister willy nilly. It could be that the Prime Minister didn’t know what to do and just did what came to mind. What a shambles!
“Its worse than scandal it is blasphemy.”
OK...
I went to a parochial school until 8th grade . I remember sone kid asking the teacher what would happen if he took the host home with him and cut into it , since it was the “ body of Christ . “ The teacher said it would bleed ! Wonder why a lot of kids , once out of parochial school , quit the Catholic faith ?
Non-Catholics can still get in line and approach the altar, the practice is to cross your arms across your chest (palms to shoulders-area) and the priest will give you a blessing in lieu of the Communion.
I won’t pretend to know what Harper’s knowledge was prior to this screw-up, but the priest definitely should have given proper instructions to the congregation.
If proper instructions were given and Harper still did this, well then I’ve got nothin...
Also, anyone remember Clinton taking Eucharist back in the day? That caused quite an upset!
Maybe he just saw a chance to get his picture taken. In any case it was in very poor taste.
“For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh judgment to himself, not discerning the body of the Lord.” 1 Corinthians 11:29
They quit out of ignorance and a Host that bleeds is not unheard of.
If he doesn’t wish to participate then he shouldn’t, but I suspect if he had politely declined partaking of the wafer at all there would have been a major bruhaha - therein lies the real problem.
“Also, anyone remember Clinton taking Eucharist back in the day? That caused quite an upset!”
Billy Jeff, who went to Georgetown University, did this purposefully. He did it to tweak deliberately Catholics that he knew would be offended by it and he probably had a good laugh about it later, too.
The guy looked like he was half asleep.
What he did was wrong, but there is actually more blatant disrespect for the true Presence of Jesus Christ within the Eucharist going on right here in this thread.
Harper should profusely apologize for his ignorance, which was probably unitentional, and find out what he is supposed to do with the Eucharist that he pocketed.
