Weekly Sci-Fi Thread (07/05/09)
The SyFy channel amongst other things ^ | July 9, 2009 | Nonvalueadded

This week in Syfy:

Why the heck did they re-brand the SciFi channel as syphie? I mean, series, what a hugh mistake!

Assuming Kevin is on vacation, I did want to remind everyone that the new season of Eureka premiers Friday at 9 PM ET.

Well, among other things, they seem to be having HUGE website issues cause they changed their domain name...

But, from TV Guide, I think there’s new episodes of Eureka on Friday at 9 on ‘SyFy’, Primeval on Sat. at 9 on BBC America, Merlin on 8 followed by some ‘Meteor’ thing at 9 on NBC on Sunday, Warehouse 13 on SyFy on Tuesday at 9, and that’s it for the next week...

I haven’t seen Warehouse 13, it looks like it could be fun (although my definition of ‘fun’ includes stuff that you watch because there are cool explosions or neat special effects) but I’m going to check it out on Hulu if it ever loads.

I started watching Moonlight. There was nothing on. It didn't suck but it took a few weeks to get into because I didn't know the storyline. It just restarted a few weeks ago.

I don't know why they bothered with it. It was the only show in the Friday night lineup that was NOT repeated overnight nor during the week. And I saw in the paper a couple weeks back that the star will have a network series this fall, so it's history anyway.

Probably because morons kept calling it “Skiffy”.

You know, I'd probably would have had more respect for them had they had the balls to change the name to Skiffy (and then pronounce it anyway they wanted).

Psi-Fie! would've been better.

They claim that since the network could never trademark SciFi for any products et al the change made marketing sense. Since now they can exclusivelt trademark SyFy as their brand. I agree though, looks sissified.

Did anyone catch the Warehouse 13 show?

It looks like someone took the last scene in "Raiders of the Lost Ark" and made it into a show.

Whatever the genesis, I thought it was interesting and might have promise.

I have it on my Tivo. It looks interesting enough from the promos, but I haven’t watched it yet.

IT was great. It will be on again at 10 PM ET Friday - right after the new Eureka!

Basic plot - Secret Service agents, working for a mysterious boss, recover strange and dangerous artifacts.

The first episode smacked of Skully and Mulder meet Indiana Jones in ‘3000’.

Yea, I saw it. You can also find it on Hulu. I thought the main characters showed promise.

Now we’re talking! I was thinking psionics and fie on you, but two Greek letters work — except some Frat probably already has it. Probably couldn’t trademark two Greek letters though.

I liked it enough to DVR it and am willing to give it a chance.

My wife and I watched and we both thought it “borrowed” heavily from The Librarian.

Yea, probably did. I only brought up the “Radiers” reference because the scenes of the Warehouse look like that last scene in the movie.

It reminded me of that scene as well. I have a feeling it's going to become a regular show for me.

I screwed up. Sisyphus was the guy with the boulder. I must have been thinking of Chlamydia, the whirlpool between those two rocks.
