My Daughter Has Published Bikini Pictures of Herself On FB...what is the downside?

What is the downside of her publishing pictures of herself with little clothing on a social networking site. Even if it is just friends, or even friends of friends...how far could these pictures go?

Her current age is a significant factor.
I assume she’s a minor and don’t need to know.

She’ll likely get a lot of unwanted attention.
Prepare her to deal with it maturely and effectively.

Off the top of my head:
  1. Make sure her page is closed to all but people in her network. Then at least the search engines won't index the pictures in connection with her name.
  2. Still, at this level, her "friends" in her network could turn around and post the picts somewhere else. However, at this point they may not be connectable to her name anymore, unless they make a point of it.
  3. Remember, bikini != vulgar (in most cases). But depending on her profession's level of prudishness and/or dealings with adolecents (public school teacher, for example) and her, ah, attractiveness in a bikini, such pictures may not do her well.
  4. Context, context, context: Are they pictures of her and her friends at the beach, or are they of her showing off her body, looking for a date? That could make a difference on how they're perceived.
  5. If your daughter is intelligent, conservative, pro-life, beautiful on the inside, and looks good in a bikini, well, good going Dad! Depending on age, maybe some introductions to single Freeper men might be warranted / appreciated (cough, cough). This is of course so we can get her to keep those pesky pictures off the internet....

You are a disgusting pig. You’re talking about your daughter!

...and you are an idiot for not reading the post correctly.

You can copy any picture, even if a site does not allow one to right click and save it to your computer.

Shut your mouth and try READING.
Chickensoup’s concerned about what has already happened.

So pictures on FB can be copied?

Move cursor over image. Right-click your mouse. Select "Save image as", and it will save to your PC, from where it can be uploaded where ever you want.

Depending on her age, teenage girls’ friends can be...fickle. Friends today, fiends tomorrow.

Even if a profile is set to “private”, someone with prior access that hasn’t been revoked and an axe to grind could make things uncomfortable for her @ school/work by making them available to others.

I don’t **believe** they index them at all if the page is closed to just people she approves.

She is twenty and thinks she’s bullet-proof? I have no idea.

I had a very nice body at twenty but it was for my husband only.

Well on the upside she is at least wearing “some” clothes. Her “friends” are the only ones who can access her page yet it’s quite easy to cut and paste. Some kids have been busted for “Sexting” and slapped with serious charges...Hopefully she is of Age. Even though it’s embarressing to think of your child’s picture on the internet she will be the one that has to deal with the consequenses.

Bikini pictures, if tasteful, may be a minor issue. In general, however, its not a smart idea to post risque pictures of yourself on the Internet. As many have pointed out—it could end up anywhere.

You will have to ask the inventor of the internet.....drum roll (Al Gore). It's possible he may have used some special code in the development phase.

What's her occupation?

There are horror stories out there, sure, but a lot of people have facebook pics of themselves drinking with friends, etc. I know this thread will be full of hyperbole, but I probably wouldn't panic about it.

how far could these pictures go?

Unless she wakes up, she'll probably let some boyfriend take nude pic's and those will go a long way.

Dad is worried about his daughter’s bikini pics posted on the internet and I’m the nut?
Take away her computer and shut down her website!
