The weapon, a 9mm Glock 18C, was discovered by Delta Force special troops when they dug Hussein out of his fox hole outside Tikrit on 13 December 2003. The legendary beast of Baghdad emerged from the 8ft-deep hole bewildered and disorientated; with his shaggy beard and unkempt mop of hair he looked closer to a dishevelled elf than one of the world's great dictators.

maybe an auction of this weapon with proceeds going to our brave wounded warriors, VA hospitals etc instead of going to bush’s library might be an Idea? just a thought.
Unfortunately, private "civilians" aren't allowed to own Glock model 18s in the United States (since they are post 1986, the BATFE refuses to accept the tax for them).
It’s also government property.
I just don’t see what’s so wrong with an artifact going to a museum. There are many, many people working to help wounded vets. This doesn’t hurt veterans’ care.

I speed-read through the article and instead of describing the weapon, it turned into a sermon about “hate Bush” and “reasons for the Iraq War” BDS. Typical about their reporters...
I should have clicked the video first I guess! without it, that shows how little I know about glocks!!!! any idea if that specific glock model is manufactured by them in quantity for various military forces around the world or is it just something built as a custom in small numbers?
They wanted something to rival the Beretta 93R, designed in the 1970s!
They are a regular production item, although produced in far fewer numbers than other Glock models. A few police forces have purchased them, but I'm not aware of any military that has adopted them except in limited numbers for special roles (Portugal bought quite a few, but for what purpose I don't know).
Those in the US have come from the IRS, DEA, and EPA purchases, as well as a few major police departments (LA and NYC).
Why would the EPA need guns??
They can seize property and levy fines now (based on regulations that they themselves write), so they probably need them to keep from being shot by business and other property owners when they're engaged in enforcement activities.

Police & military can obtain the G18 at a price comparable to the G17. It has a select-fire switch, a slide incompatible with any other Glock model, and fires around 1800rpm. It is a standard production model (legality in your jurisdiction may vary).
Rumors are there are 6 civilian-legal copies in the USA, with selling prices around a quarter-million dollars.

Which is where irony, or the former president's lack of it, kicks in. Hussein was found with the pistol as he crouched on all fours in his cave. But he offered no resistance to the Delta Forces and when they came to confiscate his gun they found that it was unloaded. It is safe to assume that the Bush library will not labour that point when it opens in 2013.
Not irony. The despotic dictator was vanquished by both attrition (ran out of ammo) and by force (sidearm confiscated) - a comprehensive victory.
A nation does not celebrate the start of a war, it celebrates the favorable conclusion thereof.
